KGM (formerly SsangYong) has updated the Torres for 2024. The mid-size SUV combines bold styling with a long equipment list and aims at buyers who want space and presence without a premium badge price.
Exterior design
Torres looks robust and modern, mixing classic SUV cues with sharper details. The vertical grille—Jeep-inspired—gives a strong road presence. Distinctive LED headlights complete the front end.
The side profile emphasises muscular lines and balanced proportions. Prominent wheel arches and 18- or 20-inch alloys underline an light off-road character. Roof rails are functional as well as decorative.
Rear LED lights span the tailgate with a Range Rover–style graphic. Hood grab handles are partly stylistic but can help in awkward off-road situations.
Colours include Grand White, Space Black, Iron Metal, Dandy Blue and Forest Green, with optional contrasting black or white roofs.
Interior and space
The cabin is spacious and logically laid out. A integrated digital panel combines instruments and infotainment. The 12.3-inch touchscreen is clear and responsive.
Materials mix soft-touch plastics, metal trim and, on higher grades, eco or natural leather. Front seats are comfortable with good lateral support; top versions add electric adjustment, heating and ventilation.
Rear head and leg room are generous even for tall adults. The 60:40 split bench adds flexibility.
Boot volume is 703 litres seats up, 1,662 litres folded—among the largest in class. Dual-zone climate with rear vents and optional ambient lighting improve comfort. Numerous storage pockets and cup holders help daily use. An optional digital rear-view mirror uses a camera feed when the boot is full.
Technology and connectivity
The 12.3-inch centre screen supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Integrated navigation with live traffic is available on upper trims.
A 12.5-inch digital instrument panel can be customised. Standard audio uses six speakers; a premium system with subwoofer is optional.
Multiple USB ports, wireless phone charging (on higher grades) and Bluetooth for several devices are included. A 360° camera aids parking and light off-road work. eCall can alert emergency services after a crash.
Drive modes adjust engine, transmission and steering behaviour.
Performance and driving
The main engine is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol with 163 hp and 280 Nm (manual) or 260 Nm (automatic). Official 0–100 km/h is about 9.8 s; top speed 191 km/h.
Buyers choose a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. AWD is optional; 2WD versions use less fuel and cost less to service.
McPherson struts front and multi-link rear balance comfort and control. Ground clearance is 195 mm. Electric power steering is accurate; ventilated disc brakes all round.
Official combined consumption is about 8.5 l/100 km (2WD manual) and 9.1 l/100 km (AWD automatic). Idle Stop & Go cuts urban consumption. Maximum towing is 1,500 kg with trailer brakes fitted.
Safety and assistance
Torres offers a broad ADAS suite: autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control (with Stop & Go on upper grades), up to nine airbags, parking sensors, reversing camera and 360° view on top versions.
Intelligent Speed Assist reads limit signs; Driver Attention Alert suggests breaks. Hill descent and hill-start assist help on slopes. ISOFIX mounts are standard; eCall is included.
Efficiency and emissions
Official combined consumption ranges from 7.9 l/100 km (2WD manual) to 9.1 l/100 km (AWD automatic). CO₂ is 194–207 g/km (Euro 6d Full).
KGM has announced a hybrid Torres within about 12 months and sells a Torres EVX electric version on some markets (up to 287 km range claimed), with Romania rollout planned.
Rivals and positioning
Torres competes with established mid-size SUVs. Strengths include interior space (4,700 mm long, 2,680 mm wheelbase), 703-litre boot, distinctive design, generous standard kit and competitive pricing. Weak points versus some rivals: fuel use, single petrol engine choice for now, newer brand recognition and uncertain resale.
Versus Dacia Bigster and similar models, Torres trades on equipment and presence; buyers must weigh brand familiarity and running costs.
Verdict
KGM Torres 2024 is a spacious, well-equipped mid-size SUV with clear styling and a comprehensive safety pack. It is not the sportiest or most efficient in class, but versatility and light off-road ability suit family and mixed-use buyers open to a lesser-known badge.
