BMW is preparing a series of range updates for autumn 2026. The most visible change is a new Black Package for the M Performance versions of the BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 4 Series Coupé and BMW 4 Series Convertible. The package changes the visual specification and parts of the cabin rather than the powertrain. At the same time, BMW M is introducing a new M Performance wheel for the BMW M5 Sedan and BMW M5 Touring, using a high-pressure casting process designed to reduce weight.

BMW’s announcement describes the German-market offer, so equipment and pricing may differ in other European countries. The company has not announced Romanian prices for the Black Package or the new M5 wheels. The technical and consumption figures in the release are also tied to specific German-market configurations and should not be treated as a complete Romanian price list.

What the Black Package changes

The Black Package is available for M Performance models in the BMW 2 Series Coupé, 4 Series Coupé and 4 Series Convertible ranges. It can be ordered only together with the M Sport Package Pro, which includes M Sport brakes with red callipers. That connection matters because the package is not simply a black badge added to an otherwise standard car; it sits within a higher equipment configuration.

Inside, the package brings M Carbon Fibre interior trim and an M leather steering wheel with carbon-fibre decorative trim. BMW presents the combination as a motorsport-inspired cabin treatment. The announcement does not claim extra engine output, a new transmission calibration or a different suspension for the cars fitted with the Black Package. Its main purpose is to change the specification, materials and visual identity of the car.

The exterior additions include exclusive model badges at the rear and a black BMW M logo on the side panel. The BMW M240i xDrive Coupé also receives black door-sill strips, matching the treatment already used by the more powerful M Performance models in the 4 Series family. This gives the compact Coupé and the larger Coupé and Convertible models a more consistent visual theme.

Wheel and tyre equipment for the 4 Series

For the BMW M440i xDrive Coupé and BMW M440d xDrive Coupé, the Black Package includes 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in Double-spoke Style 995 M Jet Black. The package uses mixed tyres, meaning that the front and rear axles use different tyre dimensions. The same wheel-and-tyre combination is included for the M440i xDrive Convertible and M440d xDrive Convertible.

Other M light-alloy wheel designs will be available as optional additions for the four 4 Series models. Larger wheels and sportier tyres can change steering response and visual stance, but they can also affect ride comfort, rolling noise and energy or fuel consumption. BMW does not publish separate consumption figures for every wheel and tyre combination in the announcement.

The release lists 8.0 litres per 100 kilometres and 181 grams of CO2 per kilometre for the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé. The M440i xDrive Coupé is listed at 7.7 litres per 100 kilometres and 175 grams of CO2 per kilometre, while the M440d xDrive Coupé is listed at 6.5 litres per 100 kilometres and 171 grams. The M440i Convertible and M440d Convertible are listed at 7.7 and 6.8 litres per 100 kilometres respectively. These are WLTP figures for the stated configurations and may vary with equipment.

A new M Performance wheel for the M5

The BMW M5 Sedan and BMW M5 Touring will receive a separate wheel update. From autumn 2026, BMW will offer a new M Performance light-alloy wheel in Gold Bronze and Jet Black. The Style 1075 M wheel will be available in 20- and 21-inch sizes as a complete set with sport tyres.

BMW says the wheel uses a High Pressure Casting process developed with German company Entec-Stracon. The aluminium alloy is cast under vacuum and high pressure, and the process is monitored by 80 sensors and an artificial-intelligence system. BMW says the casting itself takes 0.05 seconds, while total production time is reduced by half compared with the process described in its release.

Why lower wheel weight matters

BMW claims that the new method can reduce the weight of each wheel by up to 20 percent without changing its stated performance. Wheel weight contributes to unsprung mass, the part of a vehicle’s mass that the suspension has to control directly. Lower unsprung mass can help the suspension follow the road and may improve steering response, acceleration and braking. The real result still depends on the tyre, the suspension calibration, pressures and road surface.

The company also says that the optimised alloy is recyclable and that the energy needed to produce a wheel is cut in half. These figures describe the manufacturing process and are not a full life-cycle assessment of the wheel, tyre and vehicle. BMW has not published prices for the new Style 1075 M wheel set in the announcement.

Other BMW range changes for autumn

The same programme includes production starts and market launches for several other BMW models. The new 7 Series will add the 740d xDrive, 750e xDrive and M760e xDrive. All three use 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engines, and BMW lists the M760e xDrive at 450 kW, or 612 hp, for the German market.

The new X5 range will add the X5 50e xDrive, X5 M60e xDrive and the electric iX5 60 xDrive. BMW lists 450 kW, or 612 hp, for the X5 M60e xDrive and a WLTP electric range of 723–850 kilometres for the iX5 60 xDrive. The X3 M50 xDrive will rise to 326 kW, or 443 hp, which BMW describes as a 33-kW or 45-hp increase over the previous version. The iX3 40 xDrive will produce 275 kW and have a WLTP range of 515–621 kilometres.

The 2 Series Active Tourer will gain 17-inch wheels as standard on the 218d, 220d and 225e xDrive. BMW also announces interior improvements for the X3, new exterior colours and equipment for the iX3, and options such as a digital interior mirror for the 7 Series and i7. During the second half of 2026, Amazon Prime Video will become available in vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 9 or X. From October, BMW Maps will combine navigation, the vehicle surroundings and assistance functions in a 3D view on cars with Operating System X.

What buyers should check

The Black Package is aimed at buyers who want darker exterior details and carbon-fibre trim without changing the advertised power output. The new M5 wheel has a clearer technical purpose because lower wheel mass can affect the suspension and response, but the larger sizes and sport tyres can also raise replacement costs and influence comfort.

BMW has not published Romanian prices or a final local equipment list. Customers should therefore confirm availability and specification through the BMW Romania configurator or an authorised retailer. The confirmed information is that the updates are scheduled for autumn 2026, while the exact offer may vary from one market to another.
