Geely Cityray slots between Coolray and Starray in the brand’s SUV line-up—a 4510 × 1865 × 1650 mm urban crossover with a 571-litre boot (1,271 litres seats down).
The 1.5-litre turbo delivers 174 hp and 270 Nm (290 Nm peak on some specs); 0–100 km/h is 7.9 s. Romanian list prices start at €29,990, with early buyers offered a €3,000 discount. Official combined consumption is 6.3 l/100 km.
We assess whether Cityray is a credible alternative in a crowded compact-SUV market.
Where Cityray sits in the Geely range
Cityray bridges Geely’s compact and mid-size offers. Length is 130 mm above Coolray (4380 mm) and 160 mm below Starray (4670 mm). Width (1865 mm) and height (1650 mm) follow the same step logic; wheelbase is 2701 mm (Coolray 2600 mm, Starray 2777 mm). Ground clearance is 200 mm.
Cityray uses the BMA 2.0 platform shared more closely with Coolray than with the CMA-based Starray. Independent multi-link rear suspension replaces Coolray’s torsion beam—a measurable gain in ride and stability.
Target buyers include young professionals wanting style with practicality, and urban families needing space and flexibility.
Exterior and interior design
Cityray shares Geely’s current design language in a tighter package: large geometric grille, “aurora” LED headlights with a light bar, coupé-like side glass and 19-inch alloys. Plastic cladding and optional two-tone roof reinforce the SUV look.
Inside, a 13.2-inch vertical 2K touchscreen dominates; a 10.2-inch digital cluster sits ahead of the driver. Apple CarPlay is standard; Android users get the AutoDo mirroring app. Materials mix artificial leather, soft-touch plastics and, on upper trims, ambient lighting with 72 colour modes and a panoramic roof with a full textile blind.
Rear seats split 60:40, are heated on some grades, and accommodate adults up to about 1.90 m. A full-size spare wheel is standard—unusual among European rivals.

Technology
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor with 16 GB RAM and 128 GB storage runs the infotainment. Audio is four speakers base, eight on premium trims. A 540° camera system (four HD cameras) compensates partly for missing front parking sensors. Connectivity includes Bluetooth, USB-C, USB-A, 4G Wi‑Fi and 15 W wireless charging (two chargers on top grades). Dual-zone climate with rear vents is available.

Performance and driving
The 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo produces 174 hp (128 kW) at 5500 rpm and up to 290 Nm between 2000–3500 rpm. A 7-speed wet dual-clutch drives the front wheels.
Acceleration is competitive for the class, but Cityray prioritises comfort over track-day handling. Top speed is 190 km/h. Drive modes—Eco, Comfort, Sport and Smart—change throttle and shift behaviour subtly.
Multi-link rear suspension improves comfort on broken roads while keeping urban agility. Real-world consumption is typically 7–8 l/100 km, up to about 10 l/100 km in heavy city traffic—above the 6.3 l/100 km WLTP figure. The 51-litre tank supports long trips when driven calmly.
Prices and rivals in Romania
At €29,990 (before discounts), Cityray faces Dacia Duster, MG ZS, SsangYong/KGM Korando and other compact SUVs.
Duster remains cheaper to buy and run (5.1 l/100 km official on diesel variants cited in the Romanian comparison) with strong 4×4 options, but Cityray offers more power (174 hp vs 110 hp on the compared Duster diesel), a larger boot (571 l vs 478 l) and richer digital cabin tech at a higher price.
MG ZS leans on value and familiarity; Cityray pushes newer design and screen-heavy interior.
Korando 1.5 Turbo (163 hp, roughly €26,000–28,000) is slightly cheaper; Cityray counters with stronger performance, boot space and standard assistance tech.
Choosing Cityray over Starray means less size and the simpler BMA platform, but lower price, easier parking and lower consumption while keeping much of the visual identity.
Verdict
Cityray exceeds expectations for its price band in material quality, rear suspension and infotainment hardware. The 174 hp engine is adequate for daily use; real consumption around 7–8 l/100 km is acceptable in class. Missing front parking sensors is a notable omission for 2026, partly offset by the camera system.
For buyers near €30,000 weighing Chinese and established brands, Cityray is a finished product that deserves a test drive—provided you accept newer-brand resale uncertainty.
Key takeaways
- 4510 mm length fills the gap between Coolray and Starray; 571-litre boot and 2701 mm wheelbase suit urban families.
- 13.2-inch 2K vertical screen and Snapdragon 8155 hardware punch above the price class.
- 174 hp, 7.9 s 0–100 km/h and ~7–8 l/100 km real consumption balance performance and running costs.
- List €29,990 with launch discounts; equipment compares well with Duster and MG HS on tech, less so on lowest purchase price.
- Interior materials and independent rear suspension show how far Chinese brands have moved toward European expectations.
