Jaguar is expected to follow the Type 01 with an electric crossover, according to recent reporting about the brand’s product plan. Jaguar has not yet confirmed the future model’s name, body style, launch date, price or technical specification. What the company has confirmed is the direction: Type 01 is the first production Jaguar of a new generation, and its design and technology are intended to shape the vehicles that follow.

The Type 01 was officially revealed in New York on 6 October 2026. It is a four-door electric grand tourer, with orders expected to open in early 2027 and first customer deliveries planned for the second half of the year. It is also the first production Jaguar built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA.

Why a crossover would make sense

A crossover would give Jaguar a taller body, easier access and more flexible cargo space than the low-slung Type 01. That does not necessarily mean a conventional family SUV. Jaguar could use a higher driving position and a larger rear compartment while retaining the long surfaces, restrained detailing and strong horizontal graphics introduced by the new design language.

The company already has experience in the segment through the F-Pace, while the I-Pace was its first series-production EV. The next crossover would arrive in a different context, however. Jaguar has announced an electric-only transformation and a move towards a more exclusive luxury position. The model would therefore need to be more than a direct replacement for an older SUV; it would be another expression of the new Jaguar family.

Type 01 as the design reference

The official Type 01 uses a low roof, a long bonnet, short front overhangs and 23-inch wheels. Its front end is defined by a four-light signature, while the digital LED headlights are only 84 mm high and contain 17,000 pixels each. Flush door handles preserve the clean sides, and the rear lights remain hidden until they are illuminated inside horizontal strikethrough elements.

The Type 00 design vision introduced the same broad ideas: continuous surfaces, minimal visible hardware, a sculptural rear and an updated interpretation of Jaguar’s strikethrough graphic. A production crossover could not keep all the proportions of a grand tourer, but it could carry over the lighting signature, the horizontal graphics, the new device mark and the smooth body treatment. That is an inference from Jaguar’s published design work, not a confirmed description of the upcoming model.

The role of the JEA platform

Jaguar Electric Architecture was developed specifically for battery-electric vehicles. In Type 01, the architecture supports the low seating position, the long bonnet and a claimed 50:50 weight distribution. A crossover using the same family of foundations could place the cabin higher and create more usable space without abandoning the underlying electric packaging.

Jaguar has not released battery, motor or range information for the reported crossover. Type 01 itself is announced with a usable 118 kWh battery, an 850-volt electrical system and an estimated range of up to 450 km WLTP before final certification. Those numbers belong to the GT and should not be transferred to another model.

A design language, not a confirmed product sheet

Jaguar describes Type 01 as the first of a new generation. Its name links the traditional “Type” designation with zero tailpipe emissions and the first vehicle of the new era. The company says the model’s exuberant modernist design, technology and driving character will define future luxury performance Jaguars.

The cabin offers another clue. A central spine runs through the interior and creates four individual spaces. A 24-inch single-glass OLED display sits ahead of the driver, with a separate seven-inch touchscreen for key controls. Jaguar uses a travertine-inspired palette, artisan textile references and brass-effect details. A future crossover may adapt the architectural idea to a more conventional family cabin, but Jaguar has not yet shown such an interior.

What remains unknown

The only officially confirmed new-generation production car at this stage is the Type 01. Jaguar has not published the next crossover’s name, reveal date, order window or production location. There is also no confirmed information about single- or dual-motor versions, battery capacity, charging performance, dimensions or pricing.

The reliable conclusion is therefore narrower than the headline: Jaguar is rebuilding its range around battery-electric vehicles and a design language first shown by Type 00 and carried into production by Type 01. If a crossover is the next model, it will have to add practicality and ground clearance while retaining the visual identity Jaguar is now establishing. Until the company publishes a product announcement, the crossover remains a reported direction rather than a confirmed specification.
