Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has put the updated Caddy on sale in the UK, with changes aimed at making the van and passenger carrier feel closer to a modern passenger car. The facelift covers both Caddy Cargo and Caddy People, while the longer-wheelbase Maxi remains part of the range. The compact Caddy California camper derivative also continues, although its pricing was not included in the launch information.
The UK specification cannot be treated as a Romanian price list. Equipment, tax treatment, engine availability and homologation may differ across Europe. The confirmed change is the direction of the update: Caddy keeps its cargo and passenger flexibility, but adds a larger screen, standard digital instruments and a new plug-in hybrid option for the Cargo model.
A 12.9-inch screen and standard digital instruments
The most obvious cabin change is a free-standing 12.9-inch central display. Volkswagen uses it for infotainment and connected functions, bringing the Caddy closer to the layout already seen in the Golf and other recent models. Volkswagen Vans lists Digital Cockpit Pro as standard on the passenger version described on its UK site.
The display includes customisable touch controls for frequently used applications. The centre console can house a 25-watt wireless phone charger, and the refreshed van gains additional USB-C ports. Volkswagen also adds practical details such as grab handles and coat hooks. They are small changes, but they matter in a vehicle used throughout the day by tradespeople, delivery drivers or families.
App-Connect supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Volkswagen Connected Services and the Volkswagen App provide additional functions depending on market and trim. The digital equipment does not change the Caddy’s load volume, but it reduces the gap between this commercial vehicle and a compact car in terms of everyday controls.
Revised bumpers and four new colours
The exterior receives redesigned front and rear bumpers. Depending on specification, the bumpers can have painted or grained plastic finishes. The changes are deliberately limited to a facelift rather than a new generation, but the front end and lower rear section have a different appearance. Alloy wheel sizes range from 16 to 18 inches in the announced UK range.
New colours are called Reed Green, Sunset Red, Grenadilla Black and Grey-Brown. Availability will depend on the market and trim. For a commercial customer, colour is not only a styling decision: it can affect how easily a vehicle is sign-written, maintained and matched to a fleet.
Cargo, People, Maxi and California
Caddy Cargo remains the panel-van version. Volkswagen Vans quotes load volumes from 3.1 to 3.7 cubic metres and a maximum load length of up to 2,150 mm, depending on configuration. Both standard-wheelbase and Maxi versions are available. Payload, load length and equipment vary with the selected powertrain and body.
Caddy People is the passenger carrier, with five to seven seats in the UK information. The official page lists 191 to 446 litres of luggage capacity for the configurations shown. Sliding rear doors keep the practical advantage of a compact MPV, particularly when loading children or using a narrow parking space.
The Caddy California camper remains available as a compact leisure variant. Volkswagen did not publish its updated price with this announcement, and it is not yet clear whether every new powertrain and interior specification will be available in every market.
Diesel, petrol and plug-in hybrid power
The UK Caddy Cargo range includes a 2.0-litre TDI diesel with 100 PS and a six-speed manual gearbox. The new alternative is a 1.5-litre petrol-based eHybrid plug-in hybrid with a six-speed DSG automatic transmission. Volkswagen Vans quotes an official WLTP electric range of 70.8 to 73.3 miles for the Caddy Cargo eHybrid, depending on trim. That converts to approximately 114–118 km.
The range is a certified figure for the relevant UK versions and can change with wheels, equipment and body configuration. It is not a promise of the same distance in winter or motorway driving. The benefit of the plug-in system is that short urban journeys can be completed using electric power, while the petrol engine remains available for longer work routes.
Caddy People is listed with a 2.0-litre TDI producing 120 PS or a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine producing 114 PS. Both are paired with a seven-speed DSG in the cited UK specification. Volkswagen may use different combinations in continental Europe, so the Romanian range needs confirmation from the local importer.
What Romanian buyers still need to know
The update matters to two distinct groups. Businesses can choose Caddy Cargo for its load volume, useful load length and the possibility of lower-emission urban work with the eHybrid. Families can choose Caddy People for up to seven seats, sliding doors and a flexible cabin. In both cases, the screen and digital cockpit change the working environment more than the underlying purpose of the vehicle.
Romanian customers still need a euro price list, local engine combinations, trim levels and the exact payload and load-volume figures for each wheelbase. UK prices include a different tax structure and should not be converted into a Romanian retail claim. Until Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Romania publishes its offer, the updated Caddy should be treated as a confirmed European product update rather than a complete local specification.
