Geely Auto has officially announced that it is entering the Canadian market, with its first vehicles planned for 2027. The Chinese automaker has already put a Canadian team in place and is developing a retail and service network. It has not yet confirmed which models will arrive, how much they will cost, or which Canadian cities will receive the first locations.
Geely Auto Canada made the announcement in Toronto on 9 October 2026. The company describes the current phase as preparation for commercial operations. Its new Canadian website, geely.ca, is intended to become the official source for local vehicle information, network updates and future announcements.
What Geely has actually confirmed
The company says it plans to introduce its first vehicles to Canadian consumers in 2027. The announcement does not specify a month and does not say that every province will receive the vehicles at the same time. It refers to a selection from Geely Auto’s global portfolio, rather than identifying a particular launch model.
There are no Canadian prices, equipment lists, range figures, homologation details or reservation system in the announcement. The website describes a new generation of electrified vehicles, but that wording does not confirm whether the first Canadian range will contain only battery-electric cars, plug-in hybrids, or a mixture of technologies. It also does not confirm that a model currently sold in Europe or China will be offered in Canada without changes.
That distinction matters for potential buyers. The market-entry announcement is not a sales launch. Customers cannot yet compare confirmed Canadian trims, place a reservation or calculate a final purchase price from the information released so far. Geely says it will provide more details about vehicles, pricing, availability and retail locations as the 2027 commercial launch approaches.
Building a local operation
Geely’s first concrete task is to establish Geely Auto Canada as a functioning local operation. The company says a Canadian team is already in place and that a retail and service network is being developed for key markets across the country. It has not published dealer names, city-by-city locations, opening dates or a planned network size.
For a new brand, after-sales support is as important as the vehicle itself. Geely will need to define parts distribution, warranty procedures, technician training and access to repairs for high-voltage systems. The announcement confirms that retail and service planning is under way, but it does not state the length of the warranty, roadside-assistance terms or the locations that would handle battery repairs.
The company points consumers and media to geely.ca. Later updates may include the Canadian model range, technical specifications, pricing, order timing and dealer addresses. Until those details are published, the website should be read as a source for the brand’s expansion plans rather than as a live product catalogue.
The wider Geely group
Geely Auto Group is headquartered in Hangzhou, China, and is part of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. The group develops and manufactures passenger vehicles under the Geely Auto, Lynk & Co and Zeekr brands. The Canadian announcement concerns Geely Auto. It does not establish a separate launch schedule for Lynk & Co or Zeekr in Canada.
Geely Auto Group reported global sales of 3,024,567 vehicles in 2025, an increase of 39% from the previous year. Electrified-vehicle sales reached 1,687,767 units, up 90% year on year. Geely uses electrified vehicles as a broad category in the announcement; it does not provide a Canadian split between battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and other powertrain types.
Global sales provide scale, but they are not a forecast for Canada. Volumes achieved in China, Europe or other regions do not show how many vehicles Geely will sell in Canada or which products will be approved for local use. Canadian equipment, charging compatibility, winter testing and regulatory requirements will need to be assessed on a model-by-model basis.
Safety, electrification and technology
Geely presents engineering, safety, electrification, intelligent technology and advanced manufacturing as the capabilities supporting its Canadian entry. The company also highlights its safety centre in Ningbo, which it describes as the world’s largest automotive safety-testing facility. That is a manufacturer statement about its facility, not an independent safety score for a future Canadian vehicle.
No Canadian crash-test ratings, battery chemistry, charging specifications, standard equipment or range figures have been published. It would therefore be premature to claim that a particular Geely model will offer a given range, price or safety result in Canada. Those questions can only be answered after the first vehicles and their local specifications are announced.
What to expect next
Geely will need to identify the initial vehicles, complete local approval work, publish prices and equipment, and name its retail and service partners. Those announcements will have greater practical value for consumers than the market-entry statement itself. For now, the confirmed facts are the 2027 target, the Canadian team and the plan for a local retail and service network.
The move gives Geely a new North American market in which to establish its own brand presence, but it is not yet a complete commercial launch. The first detailed product announcement will show whether the company starts with electric SUVs, smaller cars, plug-in hybrids or a combination of them. Until then, geely.ca remains the official channel for updates.
