Mercedes-AMG GT SUV to be unveiled on 17 October. AMG’s first fully in-house SUV

Mercedes-AMG will officially present the new electric GT SUV on 17 October 2026. The world premiere will take place at “The 140 Festival”, held on the grounds of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.

The model will be the first SUV developed entirely by Mercedes-AMG, from architecture through to technical calibration. First deliveries are expected in early 2027, according to information published by Mercedes-Benz Automobil AG.

An SUV conceived from scratch in Affalterbach

Mercedes-AMG announced as early as November 2024 that it was preparing a high-performance SUV “Born in Affalterbach”. The project is not an AMG version of an existing Mercedes-Benz SUV. The company is developing the car’s own architecture, for the first time in the division’s 57-year history.

The GT SUV will be a large-class model with fully electric propulsion, built on the AMG.EA platform. That is the same architecture family used by the new electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, but Mercedes-AMG has not yet published the SUV’s technical specification sheet.

What is known so far about the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV

Information confirmed by the manufacturer and the official Mercedes-Benz network includes:

  • world premiere: 17 October 2026;
  • presentation venue: Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart;
  • body type: large-class SUV;
  • propulsion: fully electric;
  • platform: AMG.EA;
  • development: entirely within Mercedes-AMG, in Affalterbach;
  • first deliveries: early 2027.

Mercedes-AMG has not yet announced power, range, battery capacity, price or the version line-up. Some market reports mention shared components with the GT 4-Door Coupé, but those are not final specifications confirmed for the SUV.

A model separate from the GLE and GLS ranges

In the initial release, Mercedes-AMG described the project as a high-performance SUV developed entirely in-house. The company already has AMG versions of the GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS and EQE SUV, but those start from Mercedes-Benz range architectures.

The GT SUV will have its own AMG.EA platform and will join the same category of models developed entirely by the Affalterbach division as the Mercedes-AMG GT, SL, SLS and AMG ONE. Production is planned at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen, according to information published by Mercedes-Benz Automobil AG.

Further details on design, powertrain, price and European-market configuration should be announced at the 17 October premiere.
