MINI Countryman SE Midnight Edition adds fixed equipment and 459 km WLTP range

MINI has introduced a new special edition of its electric Countryman SUV in the United Kingdom. The MINI Countryman SE Midnight Edition uses a fixed specification, all-wheel drive and a package of additional standard equipment. First customer deliveries in Britain are expected in early 2027. BMW Group’s announcement does not confirm the edition for Romania or for other European markets.

The special edition is available only in Countryman SE ALL4 form. Buyers cannot choose the single-motor, front-wheel-drive version with this name. Exterior choices are Indigo Sunset Blue, which is being offered on the Countryman for the first time, and Midnight Black. Both colours are paired with a black roof. The wheels are 18-inch Asteroid Spoke alloys, offered in Jet Black or Vibrant Silver.

What the Midnight Edition changes

The edition does not introduce a different Countryman body. Instead, it bundles styling details and equipment into a single configuration. The exterior specification includes a black roof, larger 18-inch wheels and sun-protection glass. The result is a darker, more coordinated appearance, but MINI has not described the edition as a performance derivative or a new technical generation.

Inside, the Countryman receives Vescin Black/Blue Cloth upholstery and a dark headliner. Front-seat heating, wireless smartphone charging and a head-up display are standard. MINI also includes a luggage net, which is intended to keep items secure in the cargo compartment. These additions matter because the Countryman is positioned as the more practical, family-oriented member of the current MINI range.

A fixed specification can make ordering easier. Customers do not have to build the car line by line to obtain the desired combination of comfort, connectivity and driver assistance features. The trade-off is reduced freedom to mix individual options. The value of the edition will ultimately depend on how the bundled equipment compares with a normal Countryman SE ALL4 on the same market.

Battery, charging and range

The Midnight Edition uses the recently revised 64.6 kWh battery. MINI quotes an electric range of up to 285 miles under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure. That figure is approximately 459 kilometres after conversion to metric units. WLTP is a laboratory comparison value rather than a promise of the distance every driver will achieve. Weather, speed, temperature, wheel choice, traffic, load and heating or air conditioning can all change energy consumption.

The car accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds, which corresponds to 0–100 km/h in the standard European comparison. The UK press release does not provide a total system output in kilowatts for the special edition. It would therefore be wrong to infer a precise power figure from the acceleration time alone. The SE ALL4 drivetrain remains the important technical distinction: it provides electric all-wheel drive rather than the front-wheel drive used by the entry Countryman E.

DC fast charging is supported at up to 130 kW. The maximum rate is not maintained throughout a charging session, and MINI does not give a single charging-time figure in the announcement. Battery temperature, state of charge and the capability of the charging station influence the result. For buyers in Romania, the availability of home charging and reliable public infrastructure may be more important in daily use than the headline WLTP range.

Connected services and assistance

Four years of access to the MINI Connected Package are included when the car is bought new. MINI lists real-time traffic information, advanced navigation visualisation, video streaming, connected in-car apps and personalisation functions among the services. Exact availability can depend on country, subscription conditions, smartphone compatibility and mobile data coverage. The UK equipment list should not automatically be treated as a Romanian market specification.

Driving Assistant Plus is also standard. BMW Group identifies active cruise control, lane-centering and Stop & Go functionality among the driver-support features. They are assistance systems, not autonomous driving. The driver must remain responsible for monitoring the road, keeping control and responding when the system reaches its limits. Lane markings, weather and traffic conditions can all affect operation.

UK launch, not yet a Romanian price list

The Midnight Edition can be ordered through MINI retailers in the United Kingdom, with deliveries scheduled for early 2027. The announcement also refers to eligibility for the UK government’s £3,750 Electric Car Grant. That incentive is tied to British rules and cannot be transferred automatically to a Romanian purchase. MINI has not announced a Romanian price or local availability in the press release.

The special edition is therefore best understood as a market-specific equipment package, not as a new battery technology or a separate performance model. It gives the Countryman SE ALL4 a distinctive exterior and a more complete standard specification. The next relevant information for Romanian customers must come from MINI Romania: whether the edition will be offered, with which equipment, and at what local price.
