The Subaru E-Outback is now available in Romania. The electric SUV has been announced with a starting price of €54,000 including VAT and two trim levels called 4E-xperience and 4E-xperience+. The local offer also lists a promotional price of €47,000 for the entry version after a Subaru bonus, although customers should confirm the active campaign and final equipment with the Romanian distributor.

The E-Outback is the first European model to use the Outback name with a fully electric powertrain. Subaru positions it as the electric successor to the familiar Boxer-engined Outback, keeping permanent all-wheel drive, generous ground clearance and a practical body. The vehicle is based on the e-Subaru Global Platform and is built in Japan.

Dual motors and 381 hp

The Romanian model uses two electric motors and all-wheel drive. Subaru Europe quotes a system output of 381 hp and a 0–100 km/h time of about 4.4 seconds. The battery has a 74.7 kWh capacity.

Range depends on the trim and wheel configuration. The 4E-xperience is rated at up to 523 km in the WLTP cycle, while the 4E-xperience+ is listed at up to 477 km. These are homologation results, not fixed distances for every journey. Cold weather, high motorway speeds, gradients, wind, payload and climate-control use can all reduce the range available to a driver.

The difference between the two official range figures is relevant to buyers who regularly travel long distances. A higher trim does not automatically mean a longer range, because larger wheels and additional equipment can affect efficiency. The exact Romanian specification should therefore be checked before comparing the two versions only by price.

Fast charging and battery pre-conditioning

The E-Outback supports DC fast charging at up to 150 kW. Subaru quotes roughly 30 minutes for a 10–80 per cent charge under suitable conditions, while its current European product page gives approximately 28 minutes when the vehicle uses battery pre-conditioning and a charger rated at 150 kW or more.

An optional 22 kW AC onboard charger is also available. The actual charging rate depends on the electrical installation, the station and the battery temperature. Pre-conditioning can improve charging performance in colder weather, but it cannot make a lower-powered charging point deliver more energy than its own limit.

Permanent all-wheel drive and 211 mm clearance

Permanent all-wheel drive remains one of the defining technical features of the E-Outback. The software-managed system adjusts torque between the front and rear electric axles. Subaru also provides Dual X-MODE with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings, Grip Control and Hill Descent Control.

Ground clearance is 211 mm. Subaru does not describe the vehicle as a dedicated off-road machine, but the combination of clearance, traction control and drive modes is intended to help on snow, mud and uneven surfaces. The towing limit is up to 1,500 kg. The ladder-style roof rails can support up to 80 kg while driving and up to 317 kg when the vehicle is stationary.

This equipment gives the E-Outback a different brief from a conventional road-focused electric SUV. The all-wheel-drive system is useful in winter and on loose surfaces, while the roof and towing ratings address outdoor equipment and trailers. The trade-off is that off-road hardware, dual motors and a tall body can have a measurable effect on energy use compared with a lighter single-motor car.

Practicality and cabin equipment

Cargo volume reaches up to 633 litres. Subaru lists a kick-sensor power tailgate, an expandable cargo floor, roof utility hooks and an AC power outlet among the practical features. The cabin includes a 14-inch infotainment screen, two wireless smartphone chargers and USB-C ports for rear passengers.

Romanian equipment information includes 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel and the 14-inch central display. Some equipment may differ between 4E-xperience and 4E-xperience+, so the final local price sheet remains the reference for a purchase decision.

Driver assistance and safety

Subaru Safety Sense provides 17 advanced driver-assistance functions. The European specification includes a pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure alerts, lane tracing and lane-change assistance. These systems are designed to support the driver; they do not turn the car into an autonomous vehicle.

The E-Outback can also be equipped with a panoramic view monitor, road-sign recognition, adaptive high beam and an Emergency Driving Stop System. Headlamp washers, heated mirrors, a rear-camera washer and a digital inner mirror are intended to preserve visibility in poor conditions. Subaru Europe says the model received a maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2025.

Romanian price and positioning

The published Romanian starting price is €54,000 including VAT. Subaru Romania currently displays a €46,900 promotional figure for the E-Outback, including a stated €7,000 Subaru bonus. Offers can change, and customers should confirm whether the promotional figure applies to available stock, a specific trim or a limited sales period.

The E-Outback therefore enters Romania with a dual-motor powertrain, permanent all-wheel drive, a 74.7 kWh battery and a range of up to 523 km for the entry configuration. The main decision between the two trims will involve equipment, wheel size, official range and the final price rather than the basic motor layout, which remains centred on two electric motors and AWD.
