10 SUVs withdrawn from the US in 2027. Which also leave Europe, and what happens in Romania

Ten SUVs will no longer be offered in the United States as 2027 models, but the phrase “going out of production” does not apply to all of them. Some disappear worldwide, others leave only the American market, and a few will return in a new form.

The distinction matters for Romania. The BMW iX, Volkswagen ID.4 and Volvo EX30, for example, can continue in Europe even if they no longer appear in American catalogues. By contrast, production of the Tesla Model X, Jaguar F-Pace and Land Rover Discovery Sport is ending, and remaining stocks will become the only option for a new car.

Acura RDX: a pause before a hybrid successor

Acura is stopping the current RDX generation after the 2026 model year. Honda’s premium brand has confirmed that it is working on a hybrid successor, but the return is expected in several years, not immediately in 2027.

The withdrawal has no direct effect in Romania. Acura is oriented mainly towards North America and has no official sales network on the Romanian market. Examples already in Europe usually come from individual imports, and model-specific parts and body repairs can be harder to manage than on a European Honda.

BMW iX: leaving the United States, but remaining in other markets

BMW is ending iX allocations for the United States after the 2026 model year, as it launches the new electrics developed on the Neue Klasse architecture. The manufacturer has said the measure is limited to the American market and that the iX continues in other regions.

For Romania, the announcement is not equivalent to an immediate halt to sales. The iX is produced in Dingolfing, Germany, and local availability must be checked in the configurator and with the dealer. Over a longer horizon, its role will be taken by BMW’s new electric SUVs, including the iX3 family and the future iX5.

Ford Escape: an American model different from the European Kuga

The Ford Escape reaches the end of American production after about 25 years. The Louisville plant in Kentucky is to be prepared for a new family of affordable electric vehicles.

Although recent Escape and Kuga generations are technically related, the two names are used in different regions. The Escape withdrawal is not an announcement that the Ford Kuga is stopping in Europe. The Kuga remains a separate model in the European offering, produced in Valencia.

Jaguar F-Pace: production ends with the old Jaguar range

The F-Pace is the last model of the Jaguar range developed before the brand’s repositioning. Production is ending, and the company is going through a period without new volume models until the launch of the electric cars in the future family.

The withdrawal is global, not only American. In Romania, new examples still in stock may remain, but a factory-configured order will become impossible after production closes. Warranty and service obligations for cars already sold continue under existing contracts.

Honda Prologue: an American project built on General Motors technology

The Honda Prologue was developed for North America on General Motors’ Ultium electric architecture and is produced in Mexico. Honda is stopping production at the end of 2026, citing the change in demand for electric cars in the US and a stronger turn towards hybrids.

The model was not launched officially in Europe, so the withdrawal does not leave a gap in Honda Romania’s range. The company’s European strategy uses other models and platforms, and a Prologue imported individually would need attention to charging compatibility, connectivity and warranty.

Land Rover Discovery Sport: the plant is being prepared for other models

Discovery Sport production ends in December 2026. The compact SUV was launched in 2014 and was built at Halewood, a plant being adapted for JLR’s new electrified cars.

The withdrawal also affects Europe. After stocks are exhausted, the Range Rover Evoque remains the entry model in the JLR range. A direct successor that immediately keeps the Discovery Sport name has not been confirmed.

Polestar 3 and Polestar 4: a withdrawal driven by US rules

Polestar can no longer sell new connected cars in the United States in their current form, after the application of rules that restrict vehicles and software components associated with companies controlled from China. The brand is owned by Volvo Cars and Geely Holding.

The Polestar 3 and 4 are not leaving global production. They continue in Europe and other markets, but the brand does not currently have a complete official sales network in Romania. For an example brought from another European country, warranty, access to repairs and locally available digital services must be checked.

Tesla Model X: production has ended

Tesla confirms on the model’s official page that the Model X is no longer in production. The company is selling a final series and cars remaining in stock, while the Fremont factory is being reorganised also for production of the Optimus humanoid robot.

This is a global withdrawal. The Model X may remain temporarily available in European inventory, but it can no longer be ordered as a car produced in a new configuration. Tesla has not announced a direct successor.

For existing owners, the end of production does not cancel the warranty or access to service. It can, however, influence resale value, the cost of some body parts and the time needed for specific components, such as Falcon Wing door mechanisms.

Volkswagen ID.4: a pause in the US, not a stop in Europe

Volkswagen is suspending ID.4 production at the plant in Chattanooga, United States, to use capacity for Atlas models, which are more profitable on the local market. The company talks about a future version of the electric SUV for North America, without yet giving a timetable.

The ID.4 continues to be produced in Europe and China. For Romanian buyers, stopping the American line does not directly change the offering, because European cars come from other factories and have different specifications.

Volvo EX30: disappearing only from the American catalogue

Volvo is withdrawing the EX30 from the United States after a short period of sale, citing market conditions. The American decision is also influenced by tariffs and rules applied to cars with production or technology links in China.

In Europe, the EX30 continues. Volvo has moved part of European production to the plant in Ghent, Belgium, precisely to reduce dependence on imports from China and the effects of customs tariffs. The model remains relevant for Romania as well, where price and available configurations must be checked in the current local offering.

Only three of the ten actually disappear for European buyers too

The American list can create the impression that the market is losing ten SUVs worldwide at once. For Romania, the picture is different:

  • Tesla Model X, Jaguar F-Pace and Land Rover Discovery Sport actually reach the end of production;
  • BMW iX, Volkswagen ID.4, Volvo EX30 and Polestar 3/4 continue in other markets;
  • Acura RDX, Ford Escape and Honda Prologue were not models sold officially in Romania in the American specification.

Before interpreting a withdrawal announced in the United States as the global end of a model, the manufacturer’s wording must be checked: “stopping production”, “ending allocations” and “withdrawing from a market” describe different situations.
