Tesla Model Y L gets 534 km EPA range. The six-seat SUV exceeds the initial estimate
The stretched Tesla Model Y L Premium AWD is now listed in the United States with an estimated EPA range of 534 km when it uses the standard wheels. The figure is about 11 km higher than the provisional number Tesla displayed when orders opened.
With the optional larger wheels, range is 528 km, against an initial estimate of about 515 km. The difference of only 6 km between the two configurations is unusually small, because larger wheels usually cut an electric car’s efficiency more visibly.

The figures are metric conversions of values published for the US market. Tesla currently displays the 534 km range on the official US page and states explicitly that it is an EPA estimate.
The Model Y L with standard wheels also slightly exceeds the five-seat Model Y Premium AWD, rated in the United States at about 526 km EPA. The result is notable because the L version is longer, taller and heavier.
Why a larger car can have similar range
Tesla does not publish battery capacity or detailed official consumption for the L version on the configurator page. The difference therefore cannot be attributed with certainty to a single change. The longer body can house a different battery pack, and aerodynamics, software and tyres together contribute to the measured result.
An independent Edmunds test, carried out before the new EPA figure appeared, estimated a capacity of about 83 kWh and covered about 576 km under its own protocol. That is a separate measurement, under conditions set by the publication, and must not be confused with EPA or WLTP range.
In any electric car, real-world range varies with speed, temperature, wind, terrain, tyre pressure, vehicle load and use of climate control. The EPA figure offers a comparable benchmark for the US market, not a promise that every trip will end after exactly 534 km.
What extra the Tesla Model Y L brings
The Model Y L is not just a standard Model Y with two seats added in the boot. Wheelbase has grown from 2,890 to 3,040 mm, and body length from 4,797 to 4,969 mm. Height reaches 1,664 mm, 40 mm more than the five-seat Premium version.
The cabin layout is 2+2+2. The second row has two individual seats, and the third row has a declared 788 mm of legroom. Kerb weight of the six-seat version is 2,088 kg, 96 kg above the five-seat Model Y Premium AWD in Tesla’s manual.

The 2,539-litre volume includes the spaces available when the second and third rows are folded, plus the front compartment. With all six seats in use, Tesla declares a total volume of 536 litres, of which 420 litres are behind the third row and 116 litres under the front bonnet.
Charging at up to 250 kW
Tesla announces a maximum DC charging power of 250 kW. Under the ideal conditions set by the company, 15 minutes at a compatible Supercharger can add estimated range of up to 277 km. That wording describes energy added in a given interval, not the time needed for a full charge.
The US model has two motors and all-wheel drive. Equipment includes a central screen of about 41 cm and a second screen, of about 20 cm, for rear passengers.
Will the Tesla Model Y L be sold in Romania?
Tesla has not announced by 4 September 2026 the launch of the Model Y L in Romania or the rest of the European Union. The model is available in several Asian markets and in North America, but the Tesla Romania page continues to present the local range without this stretched version.
A possible European variant would need homologation and range calculated in the WLTP cycle. The EPA figures of 534 and 528 km cannot be compared directly with the WLTP values of cars sold in Romania, because the test procedures differ.
For Romanian buyers, the news shows the technical potential of the six-seat version; it does not confirm a launch date, a local price or the specification Tesla might bring to Europe.
