Toyota Yaris Cross is updated: revised design and Hybrid 130 across the range
Toyota has opened orders in the United Kingdom for the updated Yaris Cross, a facelift that changes the front, adds equipment and simplifies the powertrain offer. For the 2027 model year, all British versions use the 130 hp full-hybrid system, and first deliveries are scheduled for September 2026.
The British launch does not mean that the same range structure and equipment are already confirmed for Romania. At the time of publication, the Toyota Romania website still presents both Hybrid 115 and Hybrid 130. The local importer has not yet published prices or a commercial calendar for the updated configuration described in the 26 August statement.
What changes on the exterior
The most visible modification is the honeycomb upper grille, integrated in body colour. Below it remains a black air intake, and the wheel arches and sills keep the plastic trim that defines the SUV look.
The LED headlights have a new graphic and integrate the daytime running lights. Higher trims also receive new wheel designs: 17 inches for Design and 18 inches for Excel in the British offer. GR Sport has its own front bumper, with more pronounced side areas around the fog lamps.
The colour palette includes three new finishes, named Precious Bronze, Persian Salt and Storm Grey in the United Kingdom. Availability and commercial names may differ from one market to another. The Excel trim can also be ordered there with a contrasting black roof and pillars.
The changes are a facelift, not a new generation. The silhouette, doors and overall proportions remain recognisable, and Toyota does not announce a new platform or changed exterior dimensions.
Hybrid 130 becomes the only powertrain in the British range
Toyota drops the 116 hp version in the United Kingdom and offers Hybrid 130 on all equipment levels. The system combines a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with electric propulsion and an e-CVT automatic transmission. Maximum system output is 130 hp.
The manufacturer publishes for the new British range a combined WLTP consumption equivalent to about 4.4–5.1 l/100 km, depending on equipment. Wheels, mass and drivetrain influence the homologated figure. Real consumption depends on temperature, traffic, speed and driving style.
Front-wheel drive is standard. The intelligent AWD-i system remains optionally available on Excel in the United Kingdom. It uses a separate electric motor for the rear axle and is intended mainly for extra grip on slippery surfaces, not for serious off-road routes.
In Romania, the current range published by Toyota comprises:
- Hybrid 115, with 116 hp and front-wheel drive;
- Hybrid 130, with 130 hp and front-wheel drive;
- Hybrid 130 AWD-i, with all-wheel drive.
The current Romanian sheet indicates 10.7 seconds for 0–100 km/h on the front-wheel-drive Hybrid 130 and 11.3 seconds for the AWD-i version. These figures belong to the model sold now; Toyota Romania must confirm whether they will remain identical after the update.
More equipment from the base version
In the British configuration, the Icon trim receives LED headlights with automatic high beam and electrically folding mirrors. The list already includes 16-inch wheels, a reversing camera and a 9-inch multimedia screen.
Design adds wireless phone charging, parking sensors and sport-profile front seats. Excel steps up to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and Toyota Smart Connect multimedia with a 10.5-inch screen. Excel also gets a powered tailgate, a heated steering wheel and upholstery that combines leather sections with SakuraTouch material made partly from recycled materials.
The advanced safety pack offered on higher trims can include:
- front and rear sensors with automatic braking;
- blind-spot monitoring;
- rear cross-traffic alert;
- safe-exit assistance;
- surround-view cameras;
- advanced parking assistance.
The Skyview panoramic roof remains optional for Excel and GR Sport on the British market. The Romanian list may be organised differently, including through other names and packs.

Yaris Cross remains an important model for Toyota in Europe
Toyota says the Yaris Cross has become the brand’s best-selling model in Europe. In 2025 about 200,000 units were delivered, and in the first half of 2026 the manufacturer reported 107,251 Yaris Cross Hybrid examples.
The model competes in the small-SUV segment with the Ford Puma, Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Volkswagen T-Cross, Hyundai Kona and Nissan Juke. The facelift strategy is conservative: Toyota keeps the hybrid system without a charging cable and the compact dimensions, but tries to answer rivals through design, connectivity and assistance systems.
For a buyer in Romania, the main advantage of a full hybrid remains urban use without a charging cable. The electric motor can take starts and short stretches at low speed, and the battery charges through energy recovery and with help from the combustion engine. The car does not, however, offer the electric range of a plug-in hybrid.
UK prices do not convert directly into euros
The new Yaris Cross starts in the United Kingdom at 27,445 pounds, but the figure includes the local tax structure and registration costs. A currency conversion would not produce a correct price for Romania.
The Toyota Romania website displayed, when the article was researched, a financing offer calculated for a Yaris Cross Active Hybrid 115 at a recommended price of €22,376.77 including VAT, valid until 29 September 2026 and aimed at legal entities. The sum is not the price of the new facelift and should not be used as a reference for the updated Hybrid 130.
Interested buyers should ask the dealer, before a deposit:
- the model year and the exact configuration code;
- whether the car has the new front design;
- hybrid-system power and the type of drivetrain;
- the list of standard equipment and packs;
- delivery time and the final price including VAT;
- the warranty conditions applicable to the VIN.
Is it worth waiting for the updated version?
If you want Hybrid 130 in a base trim, the new structure announced for the United Kingdom is relevant, but confirmation for Romania must be awaited. Headlights, grille, wheels and extra equipment can matter at resale and can justify waiting for anyone who does not need a car immediately.
The current model can remain interesting if dealers offer stock discounts and if the equipment matches your needs. Compare the final price, not the stated discount, and check Hybrid 115, front-wheel-drive Hybrid 130 and AWD-i separately. A version replaced by a facelift is not automatically a poor purchase if the price difference is large enough.
