Xiaomi Auto prepares its Germany launch: eight dealer groups have signed preliminary agreements

Xiaomi Auto has taken the first concrete step towards building a commercial network in Europe. The company has signed memoranda of understanding with eight German dealer groups, ahead of the launch planned for 2027.

The documents were signed on 3 September at the IFA 2026 fair in Berlin. They concern the future sales and service network in Germany, but they are not the final commercial contracts. Xiaomi has not yet announced the number of showrooms, the cities in which they will operate, the models available or European prices.

Who Xiaomi Auto’s first partners in Germany are

The list comprises groups that already operate extensive networks and represent several car brands on the German market:

  1. Ernst Dello GmbH & Co. KG;
  2. Autohaus Dinnebier GmbH;
  3. Emil Frey Germany;
  4. Fett & Wirtz Automobile GmbH & Co. KG;
  5. Hahn Automobile GmbH + Co. KG;
  6. LUEG Mobility GmbH;
  7. Penske-Jacobs Innovation GmbH;
  8. SPT Avior SE & Co. KG.

Instead of building every sales point and workshop from scratch, Xiaomi can use the experience, staff and infrastructure of existing car distributors. For customers, that choice matters most after the purchase: a new brand needs parts, trained technicians, replacement cars and warranty procedures, not only shops in which to display cars.

Dr Yu Liguo, vice-president of Xiaomi Auto and head of the international division, said local partnerships will occupy a central place in the European strategy. The company says it wants to add further dealers before launch.

These are memoranda, not definitive contracts

Xiaomi’s statement uses the term MoU — memorandum of understanding. Such a document sets out the parties’ intention to cooperate and the framework for negotiations, but it does not by itself guarantee that each group will open a given number of outlets.

The news therefore does not mean that German customers can already order a Xiaomi SU7 or YU7. The brand’s international website still has no European configurator, price list or local ordering portal.

Germany will be the starting point for the European network

Xiaomi has confirmed that it will sell cars in European markets, including Germany, from 2027. The agreements signed in Berlin indicate that Germany will have a central role in the first stage of the expansion.

The company already has its first European automotive research, development and design centre in Munich. Its work includes adapting vehicles to local requirements, and Xiaomi has recruited specialists for homologation, logistics, retail and after-sales services.

European homologation involves more than converting software and changing the charging plug. The cars must meet EU standards on safety, cybersecurity, data protection, assistance systems, battery recycling and technical documentation.

Which models Xiaomi might bring

The range known outside China is built around the SU7 electric saloon and the YU7 electric SUV. Xiaomi displayed the new-generation SU7 and the SU7 Ultra version at IFA, but their presence at the fair is not confirmation of the European catalogue.

The company has not specified which model will open orders in Germany. Nor does YU7, even though the SUV format is popular in Europe, currently have an individually confirmed European launch. Specifications and equipment of the Chinese versions should not automatically be treated as valid for future variants homologated in the EU.

In July 2026, Xiaomi also presented Kunlun HyperRange technology for electric cars with extended range and the SkyNomad family. These projects widen the range in China, but there is no announcement that they will form part of the initial German offer.

More than 700,000 cars delivered in China

Xiaomi began deliveries of its first car in March 2024. The company says it has since exceeded 700,000 vehicles delivered on the Chinese market.

According to its figures, the SU7 family passed 500,000 units in 28.5 months, and YU7 attracted more than 240,000 firm orders in the first 18 hours after launch. These are figures communicated by the manufacturer and describe demand in China, not a forecast for Europe.

Entry into the European market may follow a different pace. Customs duties applied to electric cars produced in China, transport costs, homologation requirements and competition from brands with local networks will influence the final price and delivery volumes.

What the announcement means for Romania

Romania does not appear separately in the statement on the 2027 launch. Xiaomi already has a well-known electronics brand, shops and commercial partners here, but car distribution requires a different structure and specific authorisations.

A Romanian buyer should not treat the German agreements as confirmation of official import into Romania. Three distinct stages are possible: official sales in Germany, expansion into other EU states and only then the appointment of a distributor or a local network.

Individual import from Germany could become possible after launch, but it would raise questions about the multimedia system language, connectivity, warranty, repairs and parts availability in Romania. The answers depend on the European organisation Xiaomi will announce before opening orders.

Why the service network matters

Xiaomi cars are built around software integration between phone, home and car, which the company calls “Human × Car × Home”. In Europe, that promise will depend on the compatibility of digital services, data hosting and software updates that comply with local law.

The mechanical side remains just as important. Accident repairs, camera and radar calibration, high-voltage battery work and warranty handling require equipped workshops and trained staff. The eight memoranda show that Xiaomi is preparing this infrastructure before announcing prices.

Frequently asked questions

When does Xiaomi start selling cars in Germany?

The company has announced the launch for 2027, without indicating the quarter, the date when orders open or the moment of first deliveries.

Which Xiaomi models will be sold in Europe?

The models have not been confirmed. SU7 and YU7 are obvious candidates because they are already in the Chinese range, but Xiaomi has not published the European catalogue.

Has Xiaomi signed final contracts with dealers?

No. The eight groups have signed memoranda of understanding. The number of outlets and the final commercial terms have not been announced.

Will Xiaomi cars also be sold in Romania?

There is not yet an official announcement for Romania. Confirmation of entry into Europe and the agreements in Germany do not guarantee a local launch in 2027.

Are there European prices for Xiaomi SU7 or YU7?

No. Prices in China cannot be converted directly into a European tariff, because duties, logistics costs, homologation, warranty and equipment adapted to the EU market are added.
