Mercedes-Benz is cutting several models and variants from its United States range for model year 2027. A company spokesperson confirmed to Car and Driver that the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, Mercedes-AMG EQE sedan, Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance and Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV will no longer be offered in the US 2027 lineup.

The decision does not remove every model carrying the EQS name. Mercedes-Benz has officially announced a 2027 EQS for the US, with dealer arrivals scheduled for the second half of 2026, and its US range information continues to include the regular EQS SUV. The change is therefore a cut to selected models and trims, not a blanket end to Mercedes’ large electric cars.

The models leaving the range

The confirmed list starts with the EQE sedan and its AMG version. The EQE was positioned as an executive electric saloon, broadly related in market role to the E-Class but based on Mercedes’ dedicated EVA2 electric architecture. Mercedes has also sold EQE and EQS SUVs, but the 2027 statement specifically concerns the EQE sedan and AMG EQE sedan.

The AMG S 63 E Performance is a different type of product. It is a high-performance plug-in hybrid based on the S-Class rather than a battery-electric car. Its removal alongside EQ models shows that the 2027 adjustment is not limited to battery propulsion. It also affects a particularly expensive and powerful version of Mercedes’ flagship sedan family.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is the fourth model on the list. It combines the Maybach luxury sub-brand with an electric powertrain and sits at the top of the Mercedes SUV range. The confirmed decision applies to the US model-year range; it does not automatically establish a simultaneous withdrawal from Europe or every other market.

The regular EQS is not disappearing with it

Mercedes-Benz USA has presented a 2027 EQS with a manufacturer-quoted WLTP range of up to 925 km, DC charging at up to 350 kW and the ability to add up to 320 km of WLTP range in about 10 minutes under the stated conditions. These are official Mercedes figures, not Carboratory measurements.

Mercedes says the 2027 EQS will reach US dealers in the second half of 2026. Mercedes-Benz USA also lists an EQS 450 4MATIC Sedan for model year 2026, while its range communication includes EQS SUV variants. Removing the Maybach EQS 680 SUV should not therefore be reported as the disappearance of the whole EQS family.

This distinction matters to owners and buyers. A model removed from the next model-year catalogue can remain available through dealer inventory, already-built vehicles and the used market. Leaving a catalogue does not automatically cancel servicing, warranty coverage or parts support. Those matters depend on Mercedes’ policies, local law and the contract attached to each vehicle.

Why the model-year boundary matters

In the US, a model year does not always match the calendar year. A 2027 vehicle can be announced and delivered before January 2027. Mercedes’ own EQS announcement illustrates that point by describing the car as a 2027 model while scheduling dealer arrivals for the second half of 2026.

The US decision also cannot be transferred automatically to Europe or Romania. Prices, order books, equipment and model availability are market-specific. A Romanian customer should check Mercedes-Benz Romania and the local importer rather than assume that a US model-year list is a European product decision.

A shift in Mercedes’ electric portfolio

Mercedes-Benz is working with more than one electric architecture and product generation. The Group’s technology pages present EQE and EQS as large electric models based on the brand’s dedicated electric programme, while newer products such as the electric CLA and upcoming electric GLA represent a different phase of the range.

Removing selected vehicles does not, by itself, prove that Mercedes is abandoning battery-electric cars. It shows that the company is selecting which products and trims to keep in one market for one model year. Mercedes has not published a complete model-by-model explanation of the commercial reasoning in the sources reviewed. Assumptions about sales or profitability should not be presented as company-confirmed facts.

For the EQE sedan, the decision may reflect overlap with newer electric products and a tighter model hierarchy. Mercedes has not, however, published a complete announcement confirming a direct EQE Sedan replacement, its name or a launch date. Those details remain unknown.

What Romanian buyers should take from it

An EQE, AMG EQE, AMG S 63 E Performance or Maybach EQS 680 already registered in Romania does not become unsupported or unusable because of this US lineup change. The confirmed information concerns the United States and model year 2027. Warranty, maintenance, software updates and parts availability should be checked against Mercedes-Benz Romania’s terms and the vehicle’s documents.

A model that disappears from a catalogue may still be sold from existing stock or through the used market. Its future resale value cannot be calculated from this announcement alone. Mileage, condition, equipment, battery health, service history, local demand and newer replacement products will all matter.
