Hyundai has revealed the next-generation Tucson for global markets, introducing a larger body, a more upright design and a completely redesigned cabin. The US specification announced by the manufacturer offers three powertrain types: a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. The most powerful version develops 288 hp. European equipment, pricing and launch timing remain to be confirmed.

The images supplied with the presentation show a Tucson Limited, while the XRT trim continues with more rugged exterior details. Hyundai expects the model to reach its first markets late in 2026 or early in 2027, followed by Europe and other regions during 2027. No Romanian price list has been published.

A bigger, more upright body

The announced dimensions are 4,699 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, 1,684 mm in height and 2,784 mm between the axles. Compared with Hyundai’s stated reference for the previous generation, the new car is roughly 58 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 20 mm taller. Its wheelbase grows by about 25 mm. Market-specific specifications may differ, so the European homologation sheet will be the relevant document for Romanian buyers.

The 2027 Hyundai Tucson in side view

The side profile makes the new proportions easy to see. The bonnet is flatter, the glasshouse is more generous and the wheel arches are framed by dark cladding. Rear-door opening has increased to 83 degrees, ten degrees more than before. Hyundai says second-row headroom grows by approximately 28 mm. That should make access easier and help when fitting a child seat, although the exact interior measurements for Europe are not yet available.

At the front, illuminated elements form an H motif around the lighting signature. A related graphic appears at the rear, where the tail lamps are connected by a red strip. The surfaces are more geometric than on the current Tucson, with clearer edges and flatter panels. Four nature-inspired colours are new: Ranger Green, Driftwood Gray, Red Rock Orange and Kodiak Blue. Some are offered with either pearl or matte finishes, while Kodiak Blue is pearl-only.

A new cabin built around Pleos

The dashboard is designed around Hyundai’s Pleos infotainment system. The central display measures 12.9 inches as standard and can grow to 17 inches, depending on specification. A slim 9.9-inch digital instrument display sits in the driver’s line of sight. Hyundai has retained physical controls below the main screen, a practical choice for functions that are frequently adjusted while driving.

The interior of the 2027 Hyundai Tucson

The official interior image shows perforated upholstery, wood-look trim, ambient lighting and a wide, horizontal dashboard. These details belong to the vehicle shown in the launch material and should not be read as confirmation of standard equipment for Romania. Hyundai has not yet released the European trim walk, luggage capacity or final list of connected services.

Three powertrain choices

The entry-level US Tucson uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 184 hp, or approximately 137 kW. Hyundai quotes up to 28 mpg combined for this version, which converts mathematically to about 8.4 l/100 km but is not a WLTP figure. The petrol engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and can be ordered with front- or all-wheel drive in the announced range.

The hybrid pairs the same displacement with an electric motor and produces 233 hp, approximately 174 kW. Hyundai quotes up to 42 mpg combined, equivalent to about 5.6 l/100 km in a simple conversion. The European consumption figure will need to be established separately under the applicable test procedure.

The plug-in hybrid is the range leader at 288 hp, approximately 215 kW. Its larger battery and electric motor provide an estimated 50 miles of electric driving, or roughly 80 km. The onboard charger is rated at 7.2 kW. Hyundai has not published every battery detail in the launch material, and the final electric range will depend on local homologation.

The stated 0–60 mph times are 7.9 seconds for the PHEV, 8.5 seconds for the hybrid and 9.5 seconds for the petrol model in their quickest configurations. They are manufacturer figures, not independent Carboratory test results.

When will it arrive in Europe?

Hyundai says the all-new Tucson will launch in Korea later in 2026, with North America, Europe and other global markets following in 2027. The company has not announced a Romanian launch date, starting price, final drivetrain combinations or the precise European powertrain mix. The vehicle shown here should therefore be understood as an international reveal rather than a Romanian market specification.

For European buyers, the key outstanding questions concern the availability of the petrol engine, the exact hybrid output, the PHEV’s certified range, luggage capacity and the XRT trim. Hyundai’s European and Romanian divisions will need to publish those details before customers can compare the new model with the Tucson currently in showrooms.
