Hyundai has revealed the new-generation Tucson, giving its compact SUV a noticeably more upright body and a cabin built around the company’s Pleos infotainment system. The international presentation confirms three powertrain families: a turbocharged petrol engine, a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. The most powerful model produces 288 hp. European equipment, prices and the exact Romanian launch date are still to come.

The launch car shown in the photographs is a Tucson Limited. Hyundai is also keeping the XRT trim, which adds its own exterior treatment. The first markets are expected to receive the new Tucson late in 2026 or early in 2027, while Europe and other global regions are scheduled to follow in 2027. There is no Romanian price list yet.

Bigger dimensions and sharper surfaces

The announced body measures 4,699 mm long, 1,905 mm wide and 1,684 mm tall, with a 2,784 mm wheelbase. That represents roughly 58 mm more length, 40 mm more width and 20 mm more height than Hyundai’s stated reference for the outgoing model. The wheelbase also increases by about 25 mm. Final European figures should be checked against the homologation sheet because dimensions and equipment can vary between markets.

The new Tucson in side view

The side view shows the change particularly well. The bonnet is flatter, the glasshouse is larger and dark cladding frames the wheel arches. The rear doors now open to 83 degrees, an increase of ten degrees. Hyundai says rear-seat headroom grows by about 28 mm. That should improve access for passengers and make it easier to install a child seat, although the complete European interior measurement sheet has not been released.

The front lighting uses an illuminated H motif, while a related graphic appears across the tailgate and rear lamps. The body is made up of flatter panels and more deliberate creases than the current Tucson. Four nature-inspired colours join the range: Ranger Green, Driftwood Gray, Red Rock Orange and Kodiak Blue. Hyundai says some can be ordered in pearl or matte finishes; Kodiak Blue is pearl-only.

Pleos brings more screen space, but not only touch controls

The cabin has been redesigned around Pleos. A 12.9-inch centre display is standard in the announced range, while selected versions can use a 17-inch panel. A slim 9.9-inch digital instrument screen sits in the driver’s view. The good news for people who dislike touch-only interfaces is that Hyundai has kept a row of physical controls beneath the central screen.

The interior of the 2027 Hyundai Tucson

The official interior image shows perforated seats, wood-effect trim, ambient lighting and a broad dashboard. These details describe the vehicle used for the presentation, not a confirmed Romanian standard specification. Hyundai has not yet published European trim levels, luggage capacity or the complete list of connected functions.

Petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid power

The announced petrol Tucson uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 184 hp, or about 137 kW. Hyundai quotes up to 28 mpg combined. That is approximately 8.4 l/100 km after a mathematical conversion, but it is not a WLTP result. The petrol and hybrid versions use an eight-speed automatic transmission in the specification described by Motor1, with front- or all-wheel drive depending on version.

The hybrid combines the 1.6-litre engine with an electric motor to produce 233 hp, around 174 kW. Its quoted maximum is 42 mpg combined, or about 5.6 l/100 km in a direct conversion. The final European consumption result will have to be established under the local testing procedure.

The plug-in hybrid produces 288 hp, approximately 215 kW. Its larger battery and electric motor provide an estimated 50 miles of electric driving, equal to roughly 80 km. The onboard charger is rated at 7.2 kW. Hyundai has not released every battery specification with this announcement, and the certified range will depend on the market.

The manufacturer figures for 0–60 mph are 7.9 seconds for the PHEV, 8.5 seconds for the hybrid and 9.5 seconds for the petrol version in their quickest configurations. They are useful for comparing the range, but they are not independent Carboratory measurements.

Europe and Romania still need a separate specification

Hyundai says the all-new Tucson will launch in Korea later in 2026, with North America, Europe and other global markets following in 2027. The company has not confirmed the Romanian launch date, starting price, final drivetrain combinations or the European engine mix. The car shown here is therefore an international reveal, not yet a Romanian market specification.

For buyers in Europe, the unanswered questions include the availability of the conventional petrol engine, the certified hybrid output, the PHEV range, luggage capacity and the XRT trim. Hyundai’s European division and the Romanian importer will need to publish those details before customers can make a direct comparison with the Tucson currently on sale.
