Why MG3 Hybrid+ matters more than it looks
Some launches are quiet; others shift the conversation in a segment. MG3 Hybrid+ is in the second group—not because it is a technological revolution or a premium product, but because it targets the sensitive point in class B: what you pay versus what you get.
Small hatchbacks in Romania are no longer ultra-cheap. Safety, technology and electrification have pushed prices up. MG3 Hybrid+ promises full-hybrid tech, above-average performance and modern equipment at an entry price that is hard to ignore on paper.
MG Romania currently lists the car from €17,798 VAT included, with a promotion of up to €2,030. Key figures quoted there include 195 hp combined output, 0–100 km/h in 8 s, EV running up to 60 km/h in some conditions and 4.4 l/100 km WLTP consumption.
That reframes expectations: nearly 200 combined hp and an 8-second sprint usually cost more. The question is whether the spec sheet translates into a good everyday car.
What MG3 Hybrid+ is
A B-segment hatchback: 4,113 mm long, 1,797 mm wide, 1,502 mm tall, 2,570 mm wheelbase. Boot 293 litres, 983 litres seats down. Kerb weight 1,285 kg.
The Hybrid+ powertrain pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine (75 kW) with a 100 kW drive motor, a separate generator, a 1.83 kWh battery and a 3-speed automatic. Combined output is 143 kW / 195 hp.
This is a full hybrid—not a mild hybrid—so it can run electrically at low speed without plug-in charging.
Exterior design
MG3 Hybrid+ looks more mature and sporty than its price suggests. The front is the strongest view: decisive lighting, a wide grille and enough detail to avoid anonymity. Side proportions are balanced; the rear is clean and functional.
It is not the most dramatic car in class, but it looks modern enough to keep owners happy for years.

Interior: where the surprise starts
The cabin delivers what 2026 buyers expect: visible screens, connectivity, decent ergonomics and a current feel.
Equipment includes a 7-inch digital cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, reversing camera and, on some grades, 360° camera, leather-style trim, keyless entry and heated seats or steering wheel.
Materials show the budget, but in context the interior is competitive. From 2025, MG added a 60/40 split rear bench and steering column reach adjustment—small but useful fixes for European buyers.
Space and practicality
293 litres of boot space is correct for class; 983 litres folded adds flexibility. Rear space is adequate for the wheelbase; this is a small hatchback, not a family van, but it works for urban life.
Hybrid system: the main reason it exists
On paper: 195 hp, EV running up to 60 km/h in some conditions, 8 s 0–100 km/h—well above typical B-segment expectations.
Romanian tests describe lively urban and peri-urban behaviour; at 90–100 km/h there is enough power for safe overtakes. Transitions between electric and petrol modes feel characteristic of this architecture—the motor gives the first shove, the engine joins more clearly as speed rises.
MG3 Hybrid+ is not a lazy economy special; it feels alert. The trade-off is refinement: Romanian press notes it is not always as smooth as a long-established Japanese hybrid.

In town
Full hybrids make sense in traffic: smooth getaways, quick responses to short accelerations, no plug required. Dimensions suit city parking; steering is adequate for daily use.
Summary: MG3 Hybrid+ feels livelier and more modern than the price suggests.
On national roads and motorways
Power remains sufficient for overtakes; 90–100 km/h cruising is comfortable in published Romanian tests. Above 120 km/h, tyre noise increases and refinement is not class-leading—acceptable, not premium.
High-mileage motorway commuters may prefer a better-insulated rival; urban and mixed use fits MG3 better.
Suspension and handling
Reports are mixed: some praise absorption and near-upmarket comfort; others note it is not a hot hatch despite the power figure. Target buyers prioritise daily comfort over track clarity—and that is how it should be judged.
Real-world consumption
Official WLTP: 4.4 l/100 km. In a Romanian test (Oradea–Baia Mare) on a very new car with some brisk driving, 5.1 l/100 km was recorded; even at high speeds consumption stayed under 6 l/100 km. Auto Express long-term testing reported about 5.6 l/100 km (50.4 mpg).
Drive calmly in town and efficiency stays strong; constant high-speed use raises consumption but remains reasonable for the performance on offer.
Equipment and technology
MG Pilot bundles lane support, intelligent cruise control and automatic braking. Digital cabin and connectivity help MG3 look “smart” rather than “cheap” in the showroom.
Price in Romania
From €17,798 VAT included, with up to €2,030 promotional discount—aggressive for a 195 hp full-hybrid with modern kit. Launch pricing was previously quoted around €19,500.
Rivals
Toyota Yaris Hybrid — benchmark trust and hybrid maturity; MG counters with power, equipment and price.
Renault Clio E-Tech — more polished overall; MG wins on value and performance per euro.
Honda Jazz e:HEV — clever packaging, higher price; MG targets maximum bang for money.
Suzuki Swift — budget conventional alternative without the same full-hybrid experience or power.
Strengths
- Excellent price / power / technology mix
- Very pleasant in town
- Good consumption for the performance
- Modern interior for class
- Honest value positioning
Weaknesses
- Hybrid refinement not yet class-leading
- Tyre noise above 120 km/h
- Weaker brand reassurance than Toyota or Renault
- Not a hot hatch despite power figures
Who it suits
Urban and peri-urban drivers who want a new full-hybrid without plug-in hassle, value equipment, and accept a newer brand for more product per euro.
Who should look elsewhere
Buyers wanting the smoothest hybrid in class, maximum motorway quiet, or conservative badge-only choices.
Final verdict
MG3 Hybrid+ is among the most interesting electrified small cars on sale and a strong “best buy” candidate in class B—not perfect, with clear compromises in refinement and noise versus established rivals.
Judged against its €17,798 ask, 195 hp, 8 s sprint, 4.4 l/100 km official figure and modern equipment list, it is hard to ignore. It wins on logic more than prestige—and for many buyers that is enough.
MG3 Hybrid+ deserves a serious test drive if you want a modern, quick, well-equipped hybrid hatch at a sharp Romanian price.
In short
MG3 Hybrid+ is for the pragmatic buyer who wants more car than the budget suggests—and in 2026 that makes it genuinely relevant.
