Der Leapmotor B10 is probably one of the most important models the Chinese brand has launched in Europe so far. We analysed the electric version and found a surprisingly mature car that still keeps some compromises typical of a new generation of software-centred automobiles.

What is the Leapmotor B10 and where does it sit?

Der B10 is how Leapmotor attacks the most important zone of the European electric market: compact family SUVs.

It offers:

Exterior design: simple, clean and European enough

Leapmotor did not try to make the B10 an extravagant design exercise — and that was the right call.

The front is dominated by very narrow LED lights and clean surfaces without the massive grille we associate with combustion cars. Main light units sit lower in the bumper.

The profile is classic compact-SUV and proportions are balanced.

Door handles are flush for aerodynamic drag reduction, but the solution is not the most intuitive in daily use; a conventional handle would probably be more practical.

At the rear, a horizontal light bar makes the car look wider; overall design is discreet enough that the B10 does not feel like an exotic Chinese experiment.

It is not an SUV that turns every head — but it does not look cheap either.

Interior: one of the B10’s surprises

Open the door and Leapmotor’s strategy becomes clearer.

Instead of spending heavily on exotic materials or dozens of buttons and ornaments, the brand went for a digital-car philosophy.

The driver gets an 8.8-inch instrument cluster; the centre stack is dominated by a 14.6-inch touchscreen.

The interface runs Leapmotor OS and responds quickly. Resolution is good, animations fluid, and graphics are far better resolved than on early Chinese cars in Europe.

It does not feel like multimedia bolted on later — the B10 seems built from day one around this screen.

The obvious downside: most important controls move into menus — climate, vehicle settings, assistance systems and more.

If you prefer physical climate buttons or classic shortcuts, the B10 needs an adaptation period.

Apple CarPlay is available, but software can still have off days

One early European test weakness was missing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; later software updates changed that.

Long-term use tests confirm wireless Apple CarPlay, though occasional connection issues have been reported.

Many functions can evolve through OTA updates — including stronger regeneration modes and electronic system tweaks.

In other words, view the B10 partly as a software product. Advantage: some issues can be fixed without a workshop visit. Disadvantage: sometimes you feel the manufacturer is still refining after launch.

Interior space: a strong argument

If the B10 beats its price anywhere, it is cabin space.

The 2,735 mm wheelbase allows a generous rear bench, especially for leg room.

Two adults travel very comfortably in the back; for a family with two children there is more than enough space.

The almost flat floor helps.

A panoramic roof amplifies the sense of space, and the relatively upright body means rear passengers do not sacrifice head room for a coupé-SUV roofline.

Long-term tests have highlighted the same two points: very spacious cabin and pleasant atmosphere.

The 430-litre Kofferraum is not a segment record but enough for normal family use, with space under the floor for charging cables — a common EV pain point solved here.

218 hp sounds impressive for a €32,000–34,000 SUV, but the B10 is not trying to be a sports car.

0–100 km/h takes about 8 seconds — enough for overtakes without drama, and instant electric response makes it feel quicker in town.

How does the Leapmotor B10 drive?

Der B10 is built for comfort first.

At urban speeds it behaves like a modern electric SUV should: quiet, very easy to drive and quick on first throttle inputs.

Rear drive helps mass distribution and the LEAP 3.5 platform uses a multi-link rear axle.

Updated cars tested in Rumänien in summer 2026 benefited from revised suspension and steering tuning versus early 2025 press cars — more controlled and better suited to European roads.

It does not become a sporty SUV.

Steering remains fairly assisted and does not communicate much about the front wheels — an advantage in town, less character on twisty roads.

Suspension filters bumps well and fits the car better than an unnecessarily stiff setup would.

On Rumänienn roads that philosophy makes sense.

Comfortable on poor surfaces?

Yes — one of the car’s strengths.

Der B10 does not mimic a hot-hatch electric.

Suspension travel absorbs uneven surfaces and seats target comfort.

Early European cars were very soft; Rumänienn summer 2026 test cars received firmer, more controlled tuning — a better compromise on local asphalt.

Real-world Leapmotor B10 Verbrauch

Official WLTP Verbrauch for the 67.1 kWh variant is about 17.3 kWh/100 km.

Results depend heavily on route.

One mixed European test dropped towards 13.5 kWh/100 km, but that was a favourable loop, not a guaranteed average.

More relevant for Rumänien: a July 2026 test recorded about 18.4 kWh/100 km on a 55 km uphill route with climate using 16% of energy.

In normal use, 17–20 kWh/100 km is a reasonable expectation depending on temperature, speed and terrain.

What real range can we expect in Rumänien?

Official WLTP range is 434 km for B10 ProMax.

More useful estimates:

  • about 380–420 km in mixed use and mild weather;
  • about 300–350 km at steady Autobahn pace;
  • potentially under 300 km on the Autobahn in winter in difficult conditions.

EV Database estimates for the 67.1 kWh pack roughly 410 km mixed in mild weather, 330 km Autobahn in favourable conditions and 255 km Autobahn in cold — estimates, not Rumänien-specific measurements, but they illustrate WLTP vs real-world gaps.

For Bukarest–Brașov or Bukarest–Constanța, B10 ProMax should not create problems in normal conditions.

On longer cross-country trips, fast charging matters.

Charging: is 168 kW enough in 2026?

B10 ProMax can DC charge at up to 168 kW.

That is not spectacular when some EVs exceed 250–300 kW, but must be seen in the price context.

Leapmotor quotes about 20 minutes from 30% to 80%.

At home or on a three-phase wallbox, AC charging is up to 11 kW — sufficient for a 67.1 kWh pack if you mostly charge overnight.

ADAS remains a weak spot

If one area still needs refinement, it is assistance interaction.

Equipment is generous, but early software could feel insistent — lane keeping, speed warnings and driver monitoring drew criticism.

Some systems must be disabled in menus and reactivate after restart.

Long-term tests still note aggressive lane keeping on narrow roads even after months of use.

Leapmotor can improve this via software, but verify on your own im Test.

Safety: 5 Euro NCAP stars

Leapmotor B10 received 5 Euro NCAP stars in testing published November 2025.

Life trim is already strong

Leapmotor’s strategy: few trim levels, few options.

Even Life includes equipment many European makers charge extra for — panoramic roof, automatic climate, surround-view cameras and the 14.6-inch central display.

Design adds heated and ventilated front seats, power adjustments, heated steering wheel, eco-leather upholstery, ambient lighting, upgraded audio, power tailgate, tinted rear glass and power-folding mirrors.

The roughly €2,000 step to Design ProMax is probably the config many buyers will prefer.

What we dislike about the Leapmotor B10

Good price does not mean perfection.

Too many functions hidden in the display — minimalism looks good, but physical climate and assistance shortcuts would simplify life.

Assistance can be too insistent — likely the main software annoyance.

Steering is not very communicative — easy to drive, not bought for mountain-road pleasure.

Kofferraum could be larger — 430 litres is adequate but rivals offer more at 4.52 m.

Network and residual value need time — Leapmotor benefits from Stellantis partnership for expansion, but the brand is young in Rumänien; behaviour after 5–7 years and used values remain to be proven.

Auto Express reported an isolated onboard charger failure on its test car, replaced under Garantie — described as specific to that vehicle, not a widespread issue.

Leapmotor B10 vs competition in Rumänien

At about €30,000–34,000, the B10 enters a very interesting zone.

Alternatives include BYD Atto 2, MG S5 EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, Ford Explorer, Skoda Elroq, Volkswagen ID.4, Geely EX5 — not all perfectly comparable, but the set a Rumänienn buyer may consider.

It is not perfect: steering is isolated for enthusiasts, too much lives on the touchscreen and assistance can annoy.

Those compromises are easier to accept at this price.

The most impressive part is not that the B10 is cheap — it does not feel built to be cheap.
