Jaguar says nearly 50,000 people have registered interest in the Type 01, the first production model in its new electric generation. The number refers to people who asked to receive more information or follow the car’s progress. It is not a tally of orders, reservations or paid deposits. Jaguar unveiled the four-door electric grand tourer in New York on 6 October 2026, with orders expected to open in early 2027.

Interest is not the same as demand that has converted

Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover told automotive media that just under 50,000 people had said they were interested and wanted to be kept informed. That response measures attention and the size of the early contact list. It does not show how many people will eventually place an order, where those customers are located or how many Type 01 cars Jaguar plans to build in its first production year.

The distinction matters because the Type 01 is positioned as a high-priced electric luxury car. Jaguar has announced a starting price of £130,000 in the UK, but that figure is not a Romanian or euro price and does not establish final pricing in every European market. The company has not yet published a complete European price list, final equipment structure or detailed reservation terms.

What the Type 01 is

The Type 01 is a four-door electric grand tourer rather than a conventional SUV. It is the first production Jaguar built on Jaguar Electric Architecture, a dedicated platform intended for the company’s new electric generation. The car has a low roofline, a long bonnet, short front overhangs and an extended rear section. Its design follows the direction shown by the Type 00 concept, but Type 01 is the model intended for series production.

Jaguar says the car is designed, engineered and built in the United Kingdom. JLR plans to assemble it at its Solihull operations, while electric drive units and battery packs are scheduled to be made in Wolverhampton. Pressed body panels are planned for Halewood. Those statements describe the announced industrial plan; they do not provide a production volume or confirm how many vehicles will be allocated to each market.

The company describes Type 01 as its most powerful and aerodynamic production Jaguar. The announced drag coefficient is 0.23, supported by active airflow elements and a three-stage deployable spoiler. These are manufacturer figures and should not be read as independent test results.

The announced technical figures

Type 01 uses an 850-volt electrical architecture and a 118kWh battery. Jaguar’s launch material refers to more than 1,000PS, while the technical information lists up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm. The car uses three electric motors and intelligent torque vectoring. Jaguar estimates a 0–100km/h time of 3.2 seconds.

The headline range figure is up to 400 miles on the EPA cycle, or approximately 644km. Jaguar’s technical assets also give an anticipated WLTP range of up to 450 miles, approximately 724km. These figures are manufacturer estimates ahead of final certification. Real-world range can change with temperature, speed, driving style, load, wheel fitment, accessories, route and battery condition.

Using a 350kW rapid charger, the Type 01 is expected to add up to 200 miles, or 321km, of range in 13 minutes. The actual result will depend on the battery’s temperature and state of charge, the charging facility and the power curve of the vehicle. A 350kW charging point does not mean that the car will draw 350kW for the whole session.

A cabin built around a central spine

The interior is arranged around a central spine running through the cabin and visually separating the occupants’ spaces. Jaguar describes brass-inspired details, a 24-inch single-glass OLED display for the driver and an additional seven-inch screen between the front seats. The company’s design material also refers to brass, travertine stone and textiles, although the final combinations and market-specific options have not been fully published.

The four-door GT format is part of the car’s intended positioning. It is not described as a direct replacement for a Jaguar SUV. JLR has said Jaguar will be an exclusively electric brand, while Range Rover, Defender and Discovery will offer a broader mix of mild-hybrid, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric powertrains. Type 01 starts Jaguar’s new phase, but the full schedule and body styles of the following models remain undisclosed.

What the 50,000 figure can and cannot show

Nearly 50,000 expressions of interest demonstrate that the reveal generated attention, but they cannot be converted directly into a sales forecast. Jaguar has not published a first-year delivery target and has not said how many people on the list are existing Jaguar customers. Glover has suggested that about 80 per cent of Type 01 buyers could be new to Jaguar, but that is a strategic expectation rather than a completed sales result.

Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries anticipated in the second half of that year. Until then, Romanian pricing, standard equipment, retail arrangements and the market-by-market launch timetable remain unknown. For an interested reader, the registration form should be treated as an information step, not as a purchase commitment.
