Leapmotor brings the B03X and B05 to Romania

Leapmotor is expanding its Romanian line-up with two new battery-electric models: the B03X and the B05. They are not two versions of the same vehicle. The B03X is a B-segment urban crossover designed around compact dimensions, flexible interior space and everyday practicality. The B05 is a C-segment five-door hatchback with a coupé-inspired profile, rear-wheel drive and a larger battery aimed at longer trips.

The local debut comes as Leapmotor continues its European expansion through a strategic partnership with Stellantis. Availability, pricing and trim structure in Romania must be confirmed in the local offer, because the company publishes market-specific specifications and equipment. The figures below come from official European and UK Leapmotor material and should be read as configuration-dependent rather than as a complete Romanian price list.

The B03X targets urban crossover buyers

The Leapmotor B03X measures 4.27 metres in length, 1.81 metres in width and 1.635 metres in height, with a 2.605-metre wheelbase. Those dimensions place it in the European B-SUV and urban-crossover area, where a higher seating position has to be balanced with easy manoeuvrability. The official technical information also lists a turning circle of about 10 metres, a useful figure for tight streets and car parks.

Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor rated at 145 kW, or 197 PS, with 200 Nm of torque. The battery has a 53 kWh capacity and uses LFP chemistry. Official European figures give the B03X a WLTP range of up to about 382 km, while the UK press information quotes 237 miles, a similar value after conversion. Real-world range will vary with temperature, speed, payload, driving style and climate-control use.

The B03X accepts DC rapid charging at up to 133 kW. Leapmotor quotes a 30-to-80 per cent charging time of about 16 minutes under suitable conditions. Actual charging depends on the station, battery temperature and the vehicle’s state of charge. A heat pump is included in the published specification and is intended to reduce the energy penalty of cabin heating in cold weather.

Practical packaging is central to the B03X

The B03X uses an evolution of Leapmotor’s Cell-to-Chassis architecture, called CTC 2.0Plus. Integrating the battery into the vehicle structure allows a flat floor and helps free up space for passengers and storage. Leapmotor lists 405 litres for the main luggage area and a further 105-litre lower compartment, giving 510 litres with the rear seats in place. With the rear seats folded, the stated capacity rises to 1,605 litres.

The lower compartment is designed to be washable, which makes it suitable for wet or dirty items. The rear bench folds in a split configuration, while the front passenger seat can be folded to carry longer objects. The company also refers to 33 storage areas throughout the cabin. These are practical details for buyers using an electric crossover for shopping, sports equipment, children’s luggage or weekend travel rather than only for commuting.

Inside, the B03X has a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch driver display. Leap OS 4.0 Plus supports over-the-air updates, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation with traffic and charging information, and voice controls. The Leapmotor app can handle functions such as battery pre-conditioning, scheduled charging, remote climate control and vehicle location.

The B05 is a rear-wheel-drive electric hatchback

The Leapmotor B05 sits in the C-segment and uses a five-door body with frameless doors and a fastback-like stance. The European specification is built around a rear-mounted electric motor producing 218 PS and a 67.1 kWh usable battery. Official European material quotes up to 482 km of WLTP range depending on the version. UK information gives a maximum of 300 miles, a comparable figure after conversion.

In the published UK configuration, the B05 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 6.7 seconds and includes Launch Control. DC charging is listed at up to 174 kW, with a quoted 30-to-80 per cent time of roughly 17 minutes. These figures belong to the specified version and test cycle; they should not be treated as guaranteed results in all weather, traffic or charging conditions.

The B05 is around 1.88 metres wide and has a quoted drag coefficient of 0.26. Its rear-wheel-drive layout is paired with an integrated multi-link rear suspension arrangement in the European material. Cabin equipment can include a 14.6-inch central display, an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, a panoramic roof, heated and electrically adjustable seats, wireless phone charging and a 12-speaker audio system. The final Romanian equipment list still needs to be confirmed.

Two positions within the same electric strategy

The B03X and B05 address different reasons for choosing an electric car. The B03X prioritises a taller body, compact urban dimensions and flexible storage. The B05 offers a lower hatchback profile, rear-wheel drive and a larger battery. Buyers who spend most of their time in cities may value the B03X’s visibility and packaging, while drivers covering longer distances may focus on the B05’s battery, charging capability and motorway efficiency.

Both models use digital interfaces and driver-assistance technologies, but equipment can differ between markets. Leapmotor has not published a complete Romanian price and delivery structure in the official material used for this report. A local debut therefore should not be confused with confirmed stock, final prices or a guaranteed delivery date for every version.

The next practical questions for Romanian buyers are straightforward: how the two models will be priced, what warranty terms will apply to the batteries, which service locations will support them, and whether both cars will be available for test drives. Those details will determine how the B03X and B05 compare with the other electric crossovers and hatchbacks already sold locally.
