Launched for 2023, the BMW X5 2024 targets the luxury SUV segment with updated design, strong powertrains and advanced technology. We review its features and driving experience.

Compared with its predecessor, the 2024 X5 gains design changes that add road presence. Slimmer headlights and an updated rear light signature modernise the look. A redesigned grille and front bumper emphasise robust character; air intakes change too, and M Sport models gain a more aggressive lower bumper with gloss black trim and black kidney grilles with custom inlays.

Inside, material quality and detail work impress. The elevated driving position gives a clear view forward. Electric memory seats support long journeys. Latest-generation iDrive pairs a 12.3-inch panel with a 14.9-inch display in a curved layout.

There is generous space for five occupants, or seven with the optional third row—worth noting that seven seats cost extra. The second row fits three adults comfortably. ISOFIX mounts are easy to reach and wide door openings help fit child seats.

Engine choices span petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid. A mild-hybrid 3.0-litre inline-six diesel delivers 294 hp and 670 Nm; another diesel option was due in summer 2023. The xDrive40i uses a twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six petrol with 375 hp and 540 Nm, 0–100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and a 155 km/h top speed. The M60i pairs a mild-hybrid 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with 523 hp and 750 Nm for 0–100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.

Official consumption for the base diesel is 6.8 l/100 km; the xDrive40i petrol is quoted between 12 and 14 l/100 km depending on use.

iDrive supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety kit includes automatic emergency braking, active lane keeping, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive headlights and parking assistance.

List prices start at €68,544 including VAT. M Sport opens at €69,730; M60i from €87,210. Rental programmes from BMW partners offer short-term access without buying outright.

The 2024 BMW X5 moves the luxury SUV forward with sharper design, strong engines and broad technology—aimed at buyers who want comfort, space and performance in one package.
