Omoda 4 debuts in Europe with 224 hp. It may compete with the Dacia Duster, but the price is still unknown

The Omoda 4 made its first public appearance in Europe at the regional final of the Valorant championship, held in Barcelona between 28 and 30 August 2026. Chery Group’s compact SUV comes with a 224 hp full-hybrid system, front-wheel drive and a 4.42-metre body.

The model enters a crowded area of the market, which includes the Dacia Duster. A serious commercial comparison is premature, however: Omoda has not announced the European price, ground clearance, boot volume or a launch date in Romania.

A 4.42-metre SUV, longer and lower than the Duster

The Omoda 4 is built on the T1X platform and measures 4,420 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,720 mm, and the version shown uses front-wheel drive.

Relative to the Dacia Duster, the Chinese model is about 77 mm longer, 57 mm wider and 86 mm lower. Its wheelbase is 63 mm greater. The figures bring the two cars close in footprint, but they do not make them automatically equivalent.

The Duster has a taller body, ground clearance of up to 217 mm and an all-wheel-drive version. For the Omoda 4, ground clearance, approach and departure angles and a 4x4 variant have not yet been published. From the available data, the new model appears oriented more towards urban use than towards difficult roads.

224 hp full-hybrid system, with no plug-in charging

The version announced for Europe uses SHS-H technology, Omoda’s name for its full-hybrid system. A 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine works together with the electric side and a dedicated 1-DHT transmission.

Maximum system power is 165 kW, equivalent to 224 hp, and torque reaches 295 Nm. The battery has a capacity of 1.83 kWh. The Omoda 4 is not a plug-in hybrid: the accumulator charges on the move, through energy recovery and with the help of the combustion engine, without a cable and without an external station.

The manufacturer has not yet published homologated figures for consumption, emissions, acceleration or top speed. Kerb weight is also unknown, so power higher than that of current Duster versions does not, on its own, allow a conclusion about performance or efficiency.

13.2-inch central screen and an interior with digital accents

The exterior design uses slim headlamps, angular surfaces and door handles integrated into the doors. At the rear, the light clusters have a luminous signature called “Cyber Lightning” by the manufacturer. The car displayed in Barcelona received graphics inspired by the Valorant game, which do not represent a production version announced for sale.

In the cabin there is a vertical 13.2-inch central screen. The model’s European page also presents a panoramic roof, heated and ventilated front seats and a start button that rises from the centre console. The exact equipment list will depend on the market and trim level.

Production of the model began in China on 26 April 2026. The first European appearance in Barcelona does not equal the opening of orders; it precedes commercial launches announced separately for several markets.

Can the Omoda 4 be a rival for the Dacia Duster?

Yes, if it has a similar price and is sold through a sufficiently wide network. Both models address buyers looking for a compact SUV, and Omoda arrives with a more powerful hybrid system and a longer wheelbase.

The comparison stops there for now. The Duster has known prices, interior volumes, towing capacities and ability on unpaved roads. For the Omoda 4, the data that establish the relationship between space, cost and practical use are missing. The phrase “Duster killer” describes a commercial ambition, not a demonstrated result.

Another benchmark will be the warranty offered locally. Omoda & Jaecoo is present in Romania, but the Omoda 4 does not yet appear in the configurator or in the local range. The importer has not communicated a price, an order date or a timeline for first deliveries.

When it could arrive in Europe and Romania

Omoda has announced that the model will enter some European markets in the coming months. In Italy, the public presentation is scheduled at the Turin Motor Show, between 11 and 13 September 2026, and in the Netherlands the launch is indicated for early 2027.

These calendars do not automatically confirm availability in Romania. Until a local announcement, the only certain information is the full-hybrid specification, the preliminary dimensions and the European debut. The price will decide whether the Omoda 4 actually competes with the Duster or positions itself closer to more expensive compact SUVs.
