Renault opened orders in Romania for the new Megane E-Tech Electric on 1 February 2022. At launch, the Romanian starting price was €32,900 including VAT for the Equilibre E-Tech 40 with a 130 hp electric motor. The model was Renault’s first vehicle built on the Alliance’s dedicated CMF-EV electric platform.

Two batteries and two motor outputs

The launch range offered two battery options. The 40 kWh pack was rated for up to 300 km in the WLTP cycle, while the 60 kWh battery could provide up to 470 km WLTP depending on the version. These figures are laboratory approval values and do not represent a guaranteed distance in every season or driving situation.

Renault listed a 96 kW motor, equivalent to 130 hp and 250 Nm, and a 160 kW version producing 218 hp and 300 Nm. Both were electric powertrains, and Renault highlighted the battery’s 110 mm height. The thin pack helped the engineers keep the car relatively compact without raising the cabin floor excessively.

Actual range depends on the battery, wheels, equipment, outside temperature, speed and use of heating or air conditioning. A car achieving its best WLTP number in a favourable configuration can therefore cover a different distance on a motorway or in winter. The 470 km figure should be read as a maximum approved value for selected versions, not as a universal promise.

Launch prices and equipment

The Equilibre version with the 40 kWh battery and 130 hp motor started at €32,900 including VAT. Renault listed LED fog lights, front and rear curtain airbags, a driver-drowsiness alert and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist protection among its equipment.

The entry version also included front and rear electric windows, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 9-inch multimedia screen. OpenR Link was paired with an Arkamys Classic audio system using four speakers. These details describe the launch specification communicated in February 2022; later production years and markets can have different equipment.

The Techno trim started at €40,900. It added two-zone automatic climate control, a humidity sensor and an air-purification cycle. The driver’s seat had height adjustment and electric lumbar support, while the multimedia system added navigation and Google services. The central display grew to 12 inches and the audio system used six speakers.

The top Iconic version was listed from €45,400. It included electrically adjustable front seats with lumbar adjustment, massage and memory functions. Its 12-inch OpenR Link system provided navigation and Google services, while the Harman Kardon premium audio system had nine speakers. The upholstery was Riviera Titanium Black leather.

These prices belonged to the February 2022 launch offer and should not be treated as current 2026 tariffs. Renault later changed the range, equipment and battery strategy and published separate Romanian price information for newer line-ups.

Production in France and the CMF-EV platform

The Megane E-Tech Electric uses the Alliance’s CMF-EV architecture. It was designed for fully electric vehicles, with the battery installed in the floor. That layout helps lower the centre of gravity and leaves room for a compact exterior with a usable cabin.

Renault selected Douai in northern France for production, within the ElectriCity industrial complex. The battery was assembled at the same site, while the electric motor was produced at Cléon in Normandy. The arrangement kept vehicle and key-component manufacturing within Renault’s European industrial network.

OpenR and Google services

The cabin is organised around the OpenR system. Its digital instrument panel and multimedia screen form an inverted-L layout. OpenR Link is based on Android Automotive and integrates Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play.

This is different from simply connecting a phone through Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Some services run directly through the vehicle’s system and the interface is designed for use while driving. Renault presented connectivity as part of the ownership experience, alongside electric range and driving assistance.

Assistance systems and exterior choices

Renault announced 26 driver-assistance systems divided into driving, parking and safety functions. The equipment list included automatic emergency braking, a drowsiness warning and assistance for motorway and traffic driving. Exact availability depended on the trim level.

The launch palette included Rafale Grey, Schist Grey, Midnight Blue, Flame Red, Dymond Black and Glacier White. Two-tone combinations were also available, with contrasting roofs and pillars. Those choices could change the final price from the base tariff.

Opening Romanian orders gave local buyers a choice between a lower-cost 40 kWh configuration and a 60 kWh version aimed at longer journeys. The battery, motor, equipment and WLTP range had to be considered together because the higher range was linked to a different technical and trim configuration. Renault’s original announcement therefore described a launch range rather than a single Megane specification.
