Tesla Semi: European specifications at IAA Hannover in September
The official Tesla Semi account announced on 20 August 2026, on X, that specifications and launch details for Europe will be presented at IAA Transportation in Hannover. The message does not fix a price, a delivery date or the first-wave countries.
IAA Transportation 2026 runs 15–20 September, with a press day on 14 September. The organiser is VDA. Tesla also showed Semi at the 2024 edition; the current announcement is about European market data, not a new prototype.
Tesla has not published a WLTP sheet, a price in euros or a calendar for Romania.
What is confirmed in the US, not for the EU
On the Tesla Semi page, reported by electrive in February 2026, the tractor has two versions. Ranges are measured at the American gross combination mass of 37.2 t (82,000 lb), not on a European cycle:
| Version | Range announced by Tesla | Kerb mass | Power (Tesla site) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Range | about 523 km | under 9.07 t | 800 kW |
| Long Range | about 805 km | 10.43 t | 800 kW |
Published consumption: 1.7 kWh/mile, about 1.06 kWh/km. Three independent motors on the rear axles. Electric power take-off (ePTO) up to 25 kW. Charging MCS 3.2; 60% in 30 minutes. Long Range has a peak charge of 1.2 MW.
The California Air Resources Board published, in the order reported by electrive in May 2026, the batteries: 548 kWh (Standard Range) and 822 kWh (Long Range), 4680 NCMA cells, made in-house. In the same document, Standard Range power appears as 525 kW, not 800 kW. Tesla has not publicly reconciled the two figures.
These values are not the European specification. In the EU, the maximum mass of an articulated combination is usually 40 t, with national derogations up to 44 t for some electrics. Range, payload and type approval will be announced in Hannover, if Tesla publishes them.
Charging: Megacharger, not the passenger-car Supercharger
On Tesla’s fleet page, Megacharger has up to 1.2 MW per post, 0–1,000 V DC, MCS 3.2 connector. The cabinet can split 1,200 kW across two posts. Tesla says 60% of range can be added in 30 minutes. Basecharger: 120 kW DC / 125 kW AC, 60% in four hours; deliveries estimated at the beginning of 2027.
The Supercharger network for passenger cars is not the same system. A Model 3 or Model Y in Romania does not charge a Semi.
Orders, still only in North America
Einride (Stockholm) announced on 18 August 2026 the deployment of 500 Tesla Semi trucks on the Saga AI platform, for Amazon and other clients, on corridors in California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois and Georgia. Deliveries start in September 2026, staggered over 24 months. Dan Priestley, Director of Semi at Tesla, is quoted in the Einride release. The fleet is North American, not European.
Series production is at the plant near Gigafactory Nevada. Tesla has not announced Semi assembly at Grünheide.
What it means for Romania
There is no order, price or type-approval date for the local market. Until IAA, a Romanian haulier has no Tesla tractor-unit offer.
Heavy electric trucks are already here. Daimler Truck wrote in August 2025 that the eActros 600 had been delivered in more than 15 European countries, including Romania. Range announced by Mercedes: 500 km, at 40 t, with installed battery 621 kWh (three LFP packs of 207 kWh). The figure is internal, not necessarily identical to type approval (EU) 2017/2400. PepsiCo introduced an eActros 600 into its Romanian fleet, delivered by Daimler Truck & Bus Romania, for the plants at Popești-Leordeni and Dragomirești-Deal, according to Sustainability Today.
Regulation (EU) 2023/1804 (AFIR) requires public stations for heavy vehicles on the TEN-T: by 31 December 2025, at least 15% of the network, 1,400 kW per pool and at least one 350 kW point; by 31 December 2027, 50% of the network (on the core network: 2,800 kW and two 350 kW points). A 1.2 MW Megacharger exceeds the 350 kW threshold, but Tesla has not announced such posts in Romania. AFIR’s 350 kW stations do not charge the Semi at 1.2 MW.
Tesla passenger cars in the local parc remain a separate category. Tesla listings are Model 3, Y and the rest of the passenger range, not tractor units.
Frequently asked questions
Has Tesla opened Semi orders in Europe?
No. It has announced that it will present specifications and launch details at IAA, in September.
What range will the European Semi have?
It is not published. In the US, Tesla lists about 523 km and 805 km, at 37.2 t. The EU cycle and mass may give other figures.
How much does it cost in Romania?
Tesla has not published a price in euros. American dollar lists are not a local offer.
Does the Semi charge at Superchargers?
Not on the passenger-car network. Tesla indicates Megacharger / Basecharger, MCS 3.2 connector.
Are there already heavy electric trucks in Romania?
Yes. Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 has been delivered here as well, according to Daimler Truck.
