Audi has presented the new A2 e-tron, the compact electric model that takes the name used between 1999 and 2005. The car will be built in Ingolstadt and joins the range below the Q4 e-tron, with a starting price of €38,200 in Germany and a claimed maximum range of 646 km WLTP. Audi has not yet published prices or the order-opening date in Romania.
The new A2 is not a faithful reinterpretation of the old aluminium-structure car. It is a five-door electric model, built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB architecture, with the motor on the rear axle. The tall body, extended roof and split rear window nevertheless point directly to the unusual shape of the first generation.
Four versions, from 170 to 326 hp
The range announced for Europe comprises four power levels, all with rear-wheel drive:
- 125 kW, equivalent to 170 hp;
- 140 kW, or 190 hp;
- 170 kW, about 231 hp;
- 240 kW, equivalent to 326 hp.
The base configuration is the one associated with the German price of €38,200. The local offer may have other equipment and other prices, and the figure should not be treated as a confirmed tariff for Romania.
Audi offers three batteries, with gross capacities of 52, 61 and 84 kWh. The 61 kWh pack uses lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry and can charge on direct current at up to 105 kW; the move from 10% to 80% takes 25 minutes under the conditions communicated by the manufacturer. The 84 kWh battery accepts up to 183 kW and goes from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes.
Range of up to 646 km and low consumption
The 646 km figure is the maximum value in the WLTP cycle and belongs to the 170 kW version with the 84 kWh NMC battery. Depending on configuration and equipment, Audi indicates ranges starting from 423 km.
For the 140 kW variant fitted with the optional efficiency pack, Audi had previously communicated a preliminary consumption of 12.8 kWh/100 km. The pack includes low-rolling-resistance tyres, aerodynamic optimisations and a lower ride height. The claimed drag coefficient is 0.24.
Low consumption matters both for range and for time spent charging: a car that uses less energy for 100 km can recover more kilometres in the same interval, even if the station’s maximum power is not the highest in the segment.
Real-world range will depend on temperature, speed, route, wheels and use of the climate control. The 646 km figure is a type-approval result, not a guarantee for every journey.

Compact dimensions and a 396-litre boot
The A2 e-tron measures 4.32 metres long, 1.79 metres wide and 1.55 metres high. The boot has 396 litres. In size, the new model is longer than the old A2 and approaches current compact electrics, but it keeps a body short enough for urban use.
Inside, standard equipment includes the 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus and the 12.8-inch MMI touchscreen, grouped in a curved panel. The multimedia system has a route planner for electric cars and an Audi assistant with artificial-intelligence functions. The panoramic glass roof has an area of 1.6 m².


LFP battery and power for external loads
Audi uses a “cell-to-pack” construction for the 58 kWh LFP battery: the cells are integrated directly into the housing, without intermediate modules. The manufacturer says this solution reduces the number of components and uses the available space more efficiently.
The A2 e-tron also has bidirectional charging functions. Vehicle-to-Load can supply external devices with up to 3.6 kW, and Vehicle-to-Home allows, in a compatible installation, the car’s battery to be used for the home. Practical availability of the second function in Romania will depend on the wallbox, the electrical installation, software and local operators’ rules.
When the Audi A2 e-tron arrives in Romania
Audi has confirmed production at the Ingolstadt plant, but the Romanian subsidiary had not published, at launch, the list of versions or prices. Orders open in Germany on 10 September 2026, and first deliveries are scheduled for December. As a reference, the German price of €38,200 places the model above volume electrics built on the same technical family, but below the Q4 e-tron.
For Romanian buyers, the differences among the four power outputs will matter less than the battery-range combination and standard equipment. The 52 and 61 kWh configurations are oriented towards daily use, while the 170 kW version with the 84 kWh battery is the one that claims the 646 km WLTP figure.
