Avatr is preparing a right-hand-drive 07L electric SUV for Australia, where pre-orders are expected before the end of 2026 and initial customer deliveries are targeted for the first half of 2027. The engineering work removes an obvious obstacle to selling an Avatr in Britain, but it does not amount to confirmation of a UK launch.
That distinction is the central fact. Changan, the group behind Avatr, identified the UK as one of its initial priority markets when it formally launched the Changan, Deepal and Avatr brands in Europe in March 2025. The announcement did not assign a British on-sale date to the 07L, and Avatr has not published UK prices, a dealer network, a warranty package or a WLTP range for the model as of 24 September 2026.
Right-hand drive was part of the plan before the 07L
Avatr first said publicly that a right-hand-drive vehicle was under development at the 2023 IAA Mobility show in Munich. At the time, the company framed the project as part of an international expansion rather than a commitment to one specific country or model. Australia is now set to receive the first production application, according to the launch timetable reported for the 07L.
The group-level European plan provides another piece of context. Changan’s March 2025 release named Norway, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK as the first markets of focus, with coverage of major European markets planned by 2028. It also described a European headquarters in the Netherlands and sales operations based in Munich. Those are concrete investments, but they cannot be read as a model-by-model sales schedule.
A UK decision therefore still depends on homologation, distribution and aftersales support as much as steering-wheel position. Avatr would need to confirm charging hardware, connected services, driver-assistance functions and type approval for the British specification. None of those details appears in the current Chinese 07L configuration sheet.
The Chinese 07L is a 4.91-metre five-seat SUV
The production 07L measures 4,910 mm long and 1,980 mm wide. Elite and Max+ versions are 1,650 mm tall, while the Ultra is listed at 1,670 mm. All use a 2,990 mm wheelbase and seat five. Avatr quotes 735 to 1,645 litres of rear luggage capacity, plus a 100-litre front compartment.
Those numbers put it in the large electric-SUV class. Avatr has not provided an official European competitor set or market position, and Chinese retail prices should not be converted into a presumed UK price. Tax, transport, homologation, specification and warranty costs can materially alter the number before a car reaches another market.
The brand’s design operation is based in Munich and led by chief design officer Nader Faghihzadeh. The 07L carries the same slim lighting, smooth body surfaces and low-set glasshouse themes seen on other Avatr models. A European design office, however, is a development resource; it is not evidence that sales have opened in a particular country.
89.33 kWh CATL battery and an 800-volt platform
All three Chinese 07L versions use an 89.33 kWh CATL Shenxing lithium-iron-phosphate battery and an 800-volt silicon-carbide electrical architecture. Avatr lists a sub-10-minute 30–80 per cent charging time and 20 minutes from zero to 80 per cent under its stated test conditions. A compatible high-output charger would be required, and the company has not issued a UK or European charging curve.
Elite and Max+ models have a 305 kW rear motor producing 435 Nm. Their official 0–100 km/h time is 5.9 seconds, with a claimed 725 km range on China’s CLTC test. The Ultra uses three motors — one at the front and two at the rear — for 712 kW and 996 Nm. Avatr gives that version a 3.7-second 0–100 km/h time and a 650 km CLTC range.
CLTC figures are not WLTP figures. Avatr has not homologated or published a European combined range for the 07L, so applying a generic conversion factor would only produce an estimate. Tyres, software, battery buffers, test mass and market-specific equipment can all change the certified result.
What Changan, Huawei and CATL each contribute
Avatr was created around cooperation between Changan, Huawei and CATL. Changan supplies automotive engineering and manufacturing capabilities. Huawei provides intelligent-vehicle systems, including cockpit and driver-assistance technology. CATL is the battery partner and a strategic participant. Calling Avatr simply a “Huawei car brand” would overstate Huawei’s role and obscure the company structure.
In its domestic specification, the 07L runs HarmonyOS and Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 assistance suite. The cabin combines a 35.4-inch 4K panoramic display, a 15.6-inch central screen, two 6.7-inch displays for the exterior-camera system and a 9-inch digital interior mirror. The equipment list also includes lidar, remote parking functions, adaptive cruise control and navigation-based assistance on motorways and in cities.
Those functions need separate scrutiny outside China. Avatr’s own configuration notes say that driver assistance cannot cover all traffic, weather and road conditions, does not replace the driver, and may require later OTA activation or a separately purchased package. Mapping, mobile connectivity, data handling and approval of camera-based exterior mirrors are market-specific matters.
What a real UK announcement would need to contain
A confirmed British launch would name the model, sales date, price in pounds, trims, WLTP range, charging connector, warranty and service partners. It would also explain which Huawei-derived connected and driver-assistance functions would operate locally. Until those details exist, the 07L should be treated as an Australian-bound right-hand-drive product with plausible UK potential, not a car already scheduled for British showrooms.
The same caution applies to mainland Europe. Changan has launched the Avatr name as part of its European strategy, but the Chinese 07L specification is not automatically the EU specification. There is no official Romanian price or importer announcement either.
The position on 24 September 2026 is therefore narrow but useful: right-hand-drive production is moving from a 2023 development statement to a market programme in Australia; Changan has placed the UK in its early European plan; and Avatr still has not confirmed that the 07L, or any other model, will go on sale in Britain.
