New Dacia Spring is produced in Slovenia, has 250 km WLTP range and will cost under 20,000 €
Dacia has officially presented the second-generation Spring, the electric city car that moves from production in China to the Renault Group plant in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. The new Spring has a dedicated electric platform, a 27.5 kWh LFP battery, an 80 hp motor and range of up to 250 km WLTP.
According to information published by Carscoops on the basis of Dacia’s presentation, all versions will have a price under 20,000 € before any local subsidies. The timetable for Romania and local prices have not yet been announced.
A new generation, with a Renault Group platform
The new Spring uses Renault Group’s RG-EV architecture, a small electric platform developed for the alliance’s new models.
Dacia states that the Spring is 18 cm wider than the previous generation. The larger dimensions should bring more cabin space, without the model leaving its role as a small city car.
Production at Novo Mesto is one of the changes with a direct impact for the European market: the old Spring was imported from China, while the new generation will be manufactured in the European Union.
80 hp motor and LFP battery
The Spring receives a 60 kW (80 hp) electric motor and 175 Nm, with front-wheel drive. Dacia states 0-100 km/h acceleration in 12.1 seconds and a top speed of 130 km/h.
The LFP battery has a usable capacity of 27.5 kWh. Maximum homologated range is 250 km in the combined WLTP cycle. In real use, especially in winter or at motorway speeds, the distance covered will be shorter than the homologation figure.
The 6.6 kW AC charger is standard. With a 7 kW wallbox, charging from 15% to 80% takes 2 hours and 55 minutes. The rapid-charging pack includes 11 kW AC and 50 kW DC charging; at a 50 kW DC station, the same charging interval takes 28 minutes, according to Dacia.
Equipment and connectivity
All equipment levels have a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The Journey version receives a 10.1-inch central screen, connected navigation for eight years and wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
For urban use, Dacia mentions a 4.95 m turning circle, an electric parking brake and reversing sensors included in the base specification. The reversing camera is available as standard on Journey.
The new Spring will compete directly with the Renault Twingo E-Tech, Leapmotor T03, Hyundai Inster and future urban electrics produced in Europe. The decisive difference for buyers in Romania remains, however, the final configurator price, which Dacia Romania had not published at the time of the presentation.
