Genesis GV90: 490 kW electric SUV with coach doors, officially presented
Genesis presented on 19 August 2026, at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, the GV90, its first large electric SUV. The series model starts from the Neolun concept of 2024. There are two variants: GV90, with conventional doors, and GV90 Neolun, with coach-style doors and a hidden B-pillar. The figures come from the official Genesis release.
Price, delivery date and WLTP type approval have not been announced. For Romania, the brand does not appear on the list of European markets confirmed by Genesis Motor Europe.
Dimensions and platform
The GV90 sits on the eMP (Electric Mobility Prime) platform, reserved for Genesis flagship models. It measures 5,285 mm long, 2,030 mm wide and 3,245 mm in wheelbase. Height is 1,815 mm on 22-inch wheels and 1,825 mm on 24-inch wheels, standard on Neolun. The floor is flat.
At 5.29 m, the car is longer than a current-generation BMW X7 or Mercedes-Benz GLS. In underground car parks in Romanian cities, length and turning circle matter as much as power. Genesis says rear-axle steering of up to 5 degrees reduces the turning circle to the level of a mid-size passenger car. The exact radius figure has not been published.
Propulsion: 490 kW, 123.5 kWh
Both variants use two electric motors. Combined power is 490 kW, torque 800 Nm. The front motor develops 240 kW / 350 Nm, the rear 250 kW / 450 Nm. In the North American release, the same values appear as 657 hp and 590 lb-ft.
The battery is 123.5 kWh, the largest in the Hyundai Motor group, according to Genesis. For the seven-seat variant, estimated range is about 500 km, measured in internal research-and-development tests, not on a WLTP or EPA cycle. Korea JoongAng Daily notes that official type approval is still underway. Until the WLTP sheet, the 500 km should not be used as road range in Romania.
Charging from 10% to 80% is announced in 22 minutes at a 350 kW charger. 350 kW stations are rare in the Romanian network; real time depends on post power, battery temperature and preconditioning.
The GV90 is the first model in the group with two electronic limited-slip differentials (E-LSD), one on each axle. The suspension is air, with multiple chambers, plus dual-valve electronic dampers. Front brakes have a four-piston monobloc caliper.
Two bodies: classic doors or Arch Gate
The GV90 has ordinary hinged doors and frameless glass. GV90 Neolun uses Neolun Arch Gate: Genesis describes it as the first coach-door system with a hidden B-pillar that opens and closes independently. The rear hinge has a double movement — the door first moves out sideways, then rotates — so it does not hit the front door. In place of a classic B-pillar, Genesis has put dual high-strength steel beams in the doors and a reinforced frame, which it compares to a hidden roll-cage. The claim of safety equivalent to a conventional B-pillar is the manufacturer’s; there is not yet a published Euro NCAP result for the GV90.
Neolun can have four seats, the Executive Suite configuration. Front seats rotate 180 degrees when the car is parked. At the rear there is wooden flooring with radiant heating (inspired, Genesis says, by ondol), a partition from the boot, blinds, a fridge, tables and a Smart Vision Roof with six zones of controllable transparency.
At launch there is also GV90 Neolun First Edition, with two-tone paint, 24-inch forged wheels in body colour and engraved badges. The three announced combinations are Jaipur Rose / Seychelles Beige, Vik Black / Baena Green and Vik Black / Sonoran Navy.
Cabin and safety
The central OLED screen is 23.6 inches on the move. When stationary, it rises 90 mm and becomes 24.6 inches. Instead of classic dials, Genesis puts a 25-inch head-up display. Pleos Connect infotainment runs on Android Automotive. The Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D audio system has 25 speakers and Dolby Atmos. Seats have 15 air cells and vibration massage.
There is no longer a start button: when the door is opened the car is powered, and motion begins via the brake pedal. Parking assistance is RSPA 3, with a reverse function on a memorised path.
Genesis announces 12 airbags, including a roof airbag it presents as a first application of this type: in a rollover it covers the glass roof. The battery has thermal-runaway protection and a cloud BMS for diagnostics. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent crash-test results.
What it means for Romania
Genesis Motor Europe sells today in Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, with Spain announced for the fourth quarter of 2026. By 2027, the brand wants to add Austria, Denmark, Poland and Portugal, according to the 12 June 2026 release. Romania is not on the list. The nearest planned market is Poland.
Peter Kronschnabl, director of Genesis Motor Europe, told CAR Magazine that the GV90 will reach the United Kingdom in 2027, in small volumes. There is no similar calendar for Romania. A parallel import from Germany or Poland would raise, besides price, questions of type approval, warranty, software and parts.
The price has not been communicated. Dollar estimates that have appeared in the American press are not offers and do not translate into euros for the local market.
For anyone already looking for a Genesis in classifieds, the local offer remains existing models, not the GV90: Genesis listings. Large electric alternatives present here are, for now, brands with a service network: BMW iX, Mercedes EQS or electric SUVs from Hyundai and Kia, with platforms different from eMP.
Rabla 2026 funds only vehicles manufactured in the EU, EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Turkey or Morocco. Genesis has not announced the GV90 plant. Without the certificate of origin, eligibility cannot be assumed.
