Kia: EV2 GT is not in the product plan; Romania keeps GT-Line

A member of the EV2 product team told Auto Express, on 20 August 2026: “A GT version of the EV2 is not in our product plan.” Kia has not published a withdrawal release. The wording is about the current plan, not an indefinite cancellation.

GT-Line, the design trim, is not a GT. It is sold in Romania. Kia Romauto describes it as the top EV2 variant, with trim pieces, a three-spoke steering wheel and metal paddles, not a performance drivetrain.

What GT means at Kia, and what it does not

At CEO Investor Day 2023, president Ho Sung Song said the high-performance GT trim would be developed not only for the EV9, but “also for all future EV models”, according to Hyundai Motor Group. The EV2 was presented in January 2026, in Brussels, as the sixth dedicated electric model.

At the same show, Kia showed the EV3 GT, EV4 Hatchback GT and EV5 GT, alongside EV2 GT-Line. The Brussels release puts a dual-motor 215 kW system, all-wheel drive and electronically controlled suspension on the EV3 GT. The EV6 GT and EV9 GT already existed.

An EV2 GT, with different power, chassis and price, does not appear in this wave. Auto Express links the absence to thin margins on compact electrics; Kia did not say that in the published quote.

What power the EV2 has, including GT-Line

Torque: 250 Nm. Front-wheel drive, one motor. E-GMP 400 V platform. GT-Line is heavier (1,665 kg vs 1,630 kg on Air) and has 225/45 R19 tyres; hence 0–100 is slower, not faster.

Kia Romania’s long-battery release speaks of up to 453 km WLTP, a range figure, not GT-Line on 19-inch wheels.

For comparison, Volkswagen presented in May 2026 the ID. Polo GTI: 166 kW / 226 hp, 0–100 km/h in 6.8 s, net battery 52 kWh, pre-orders in Germany from autumn, under €39,000. It is a hatch, not a B-SUV. It is not a “cancelled rival” of a non-existent EV2 GT; it is another product, already shown.

What it means for Romania

Kia dealers list the EV2 from €26,960 including VAT (Light, 42.2 kWh, 4 seats). GT-Line 61 kWh: €37,748 (4 seats) and €37,512 (5 seats), on authorised-dealer lists. There is no EV2 GT to order.

Production is at Žilina (Slovakia). GT-Line, Black-Line and the 61 kWh battery entered the line on 19 June 2026. EU origin remains relevant for Rabla 2026; the rest of the criteria is checked on the Ministry of the Environment guide.

On the used market, Kia EV2 listings are Light / Air / Earth / GT-Line, not a GT. An EV6 GT is another model, with different power and a different price.
