Range Rover Evoque and Velar production will end in mid-2027, JLR told Car and Driver, while sales will continue in selected markets during that year where demand remains strong. Autocar reports that neither model will receive a direct successor. The change would remove Range Rover's two lower-priced SUV lines as the brand concentrates on a more expensive range.
The future entry points described in the reporting are the Range Rover GT and Range Rover Sport, with the full-size Range Rover above them. That does not make the GT a straightforward new-generation Velar. The reported product brief and the expected price positioning point to a different proposition for customers considering a smaller Range Rover today.
A production deadline is not a final retail date
The JLR statement published by Car and Driver on November 3 identifies mid-2027 for the end of manufacturing. It separately says the models will remain on sale in selected global markets throughout 2027. The company attributes the timing to their natural product lifecycles and the transition of manufacturing facilities to next-generation vehicles.
Those are different milestones. A vehicle already built can have a different retail timetable from an unallocated factory order. The statement does not provide the list of continuing markets, individual order deadlines or the number of cars each country will receive. It therefore cannot guarantee availability of a particular engine or edition through the end of the year.
Autocar's reporting says no direct replacements are planned for the two nameplates. Its interview with Range Rover managing director Martin Limpert places both near the end of their product cycles. The relevant change is the removal of their positions in the range, rather than a confirmed badge swap preserving their current size and price relationship.
The GT has a different assignment
Autocar India, reporting the Autocar interview, says Limpert did not describe the GT as a replacement for the Velar. Instead, the project combines a more road-focused grand-touring approach with the capability expected of the marque. That is a different brief from simply updating one of the outgoing SUVs.
The same report places the GT launch in early 2027, initially as a battery-electric vehicle on the EMA architecture, with hybrid possibilities following. These are reported programme details. They should not be turned into a final specification for every market, a confirmed local engine range or an individual delivery promise.
GT and Sport are described as differently focused models at broadly similar price positions. The Sport retains the more conventional SUV role, while the GT takes a more car-like direction. Buyers choosing between them would therefore face a question of format and use as well as price; neither is described as the next Evoque generation.
What the reported price estimates actually mean
Autocar's UK estimates translate to roughly €120,000 for the electric GT and around €108,000 for potential later hybrid versions. The indicative conversion uses the European Central Bank's November 3, 2026 reference rate of 0.83358 GBP per euro. These are reported UK expectations, not announced euro list prices for continental Europe.
Currency conversion does not harmonise taxes, equipment or commercial terms. It would be misleading to calculate a precise price increase for a European buyer by comparing those estimates with a differently specified stock vehicle in another country. A meaningful comparison would require a final local GT price and a defined version on both sides.
Romania provides a concrete example of that distinction. The local Land Rover portal checked on November 4 listed a new Evoque Hoxton Edition diesel MHEV with 163 PS at €69,194 including VAT. A new Velar Belgravia Edition petrol MHEV with 400 PS was listed at €89,764 including VAT. These are individual advertised cars, not universal starting prices or forecasts of future transaction values.
The current editions do not preview the GT
JLR's April 2026 announcement covered the London-inspired Evoque Hoxton, Velar Belgravia, Sport Battersea and Range Rover Westminster editions. It documents the four established model families before the planned withdrawal of the two lower-priced lines. An edition name adds a specification theme within a model; it does not establish a new generation.
For the Velar Belgravia Edition, JLR describes 20-inch wheels, specific exterior identification and dedicated interior detailing. Its release also makes availability and specifications market-dependent. The official Belgravia photograph used here illustrates that existing Velar edition, rather than showing the future GT or proving its final design.
Halewood's documented transition
The manufacturing background predates the latest model news. In its September 26, 2024 release, JLR described a 32,364-square-metre extension at Halewood for EMA electric vehicles. The final production line had been lengthened from 4 km to 6 km, with seven-metre build stations to accommodate batteries and the proportions of the new vehicles.
That release envisaged electric, combustion and hybrid production alongside one another before a later all-electric transition. It provides a documented industrial context, rather than a current order book for the GT. Factory conversion work does not by itself tell a customer which version will be offered in a particular country or when their car will arrive.
For someone considering an Evoque or Velar now, the next useful information is local: whether the vehicle already exists in stock or needs a production allocation, which specification is confirmed and what delivery terms are contractual. The announced production endpoint should not be mistaken for a worldwide final sale date or a change to an existing vehicle's warranty.
