Renault Clio 2026 in Romania: price, engines, LPG or full hybrid and what to choose
The short answer
On 3 September 2026, the Renault Clio started in Romania from €17,800 including VAT for the evolution TCe 115 with a manual gearbox. The petrol-and-LPG Eco-G 120 EDC started from €20,400, and the E-Tech full hybrid 160 from €22,750. For the TCe 115 with the EDC automatic you had to choose at least techno trim, listed at €22,100.
The simplified choice is this:
- TCe 115 manual — if purchase price matters most and you do not mind changing gears;
- Eco-G 120 EDC — if you cover many kilometres, have convenient LPG on your route and want two pedals;
- E-Tech full hybrid 160 — if you drive a lot in town and want lower consumption without plugging in;
- TCe 115 EDC — if you want petrol and an automatic, but do not need a hybrid system or LPG.
The difference is not only the engine. Base versions do not share the same equipment, and maximum boot volume falls from 391 l on the combustion versions to 309 l on the full hybrid. Compare the final offer, a test on your own route and the cost per 100 km before you choose.
Renault Clio 2026 prices in Romania
The official Renault Clio configurator showed the following standard prices including VAT at the time of research:
| Comparable version | Engine and transmission | From price | Mixed WLTP consumption stated by Renault | Important note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| evolution | TCe 115, 6-speed manual | €17,800 | 5.0-5.2 l/100 km | lowest price; 391 l maximum boot |
| evolution | Eco-G 120, 6-speed EDC | €20,400 | 6.5 l/100 km on LPG | petrol + LPG, two tanks |
| evolution | E-Tech full hybrid 160 | €22,750 | from 3.9 l/100 km | no plug; maximum boot 309 l |
| techno | TCe 115, 6-speed EDC | €22,100 | about 5.1 l/100 km | petrol automatic, but with higher trim |
The “from” prices do not automatically include paint, packs, accessories, insurance, registration or finance. Renault’s main page still displayed a Rabla offer with a deadline of 31 August 2026; because it had expired by the date of this article, it was not subtracted from the table. Ask the dealer for a written offer valid on the day you sign.
On the same techno trim, the TCe 115 manual cost €20,700, the TCe 115 EDC and Eco-G 120 EDC €22,100 each, and the full hybrid €24,450. That is the fair comparison when equipment carries the same weight in the decision.
1. TCe 115 manual: the entry-budget version
The TCe 115 is a 1,199 cc three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 115 hp and 190 Nm. In evolution specification it has a six-speed manual gearbox. Renault quotes 5.0-5.2 l/100 km and 114-118 g CO₂/km in the mixed WLTP cycle, depending on version.
This is the Clio to choose when the €2,600 gap to the Eco-G matters more than the comfort of an automatic. It also makes sense for modest annual mileage, where the fuel savings of LPG or the hybrid take longer to recoup.
Do not take real consumption straight from WLTP. Cold traffic, short trips, motorway speed, load and temperature change the result. On the test drive, check the pull-away, gear spacing in town, engine speed at 130 km/h and overtaking in sixth. If your commute includes daily congestion, the lower price can come with a comfort trade-off.
2. Eco-G 120 EDC: factory LPG and a dual-clutch gearbox
The Eco-G 120 uses the 1.2-litre HR12 three-cylinder turbo with direct injection, adapted for petrol and LPG. It has 120 hp, two tanks and a six-speed dual-clutch EDC automatic. Renault explains the Eco-G 120 system and quotes total range of up to 1,450 km; that is a homologation figure, not a guaranteed distance between fills.
The Romanian powertrain page quotes 6.5 l/100 km on LPG, and the versions page shows 106-108 g CO₂/km in LPG mode. Consumption in litres is higher than on petrol, but the price per litre can lower the cost per 100 km. Recalculate with the prices at the stations you actually use:
LPG cost/100 km = LPG consumption × LPG price/litre
Compare the result with petrol consumption × petrol price/litre. Add any detours to a station and the fact that the engine starts on petrol before switching to LPG after warm-up.
The Eco-G 120 EDC is the logical option for a long commute, taxi work or high annual mileage only if the filling network matches your route. On the test drive include slow traffic, a slope, reversing and repeated pull-aways: EDC is a dual-clutch gearbox, not a torque-converter automatic. Ask in writing for the LPG system and transmission service plan for the VIN you order.
For more on the tanks and how the system works, see also the article on the Clio Eco-G 120 EDC in Romania.
3. E-Tech full hybrid 160: for town, without a charging cable
The Clio E-Tech full hybrid combines a 1.8-litre combustion engine with the electric side and a multimodal automatic transmission. System output is 160 hp. The battery is charged by energy recuperation and with help from the combustion engine; the car does not plug in.
Official Renault data quote WLTP consumption from 3.9 l/100 km, emissions from 89 g CO₂/km and up to 80% of urban and peri-urban driving time in electric mode. The last percentage comes from the manufacturer’s internal tests and depends on the battery, temperature, route and driving style.
The advantage appears in stop-start traffic, where energy can be recovered on deceleration. On the motorway there are fewer chances to recuperate, and the gap versus a petrol engine can shrink. Do not buy the hybrid on the advertised minimum consumption alone; drive the same urban and extra-urban loop in the finalists.
There is also a space compromise. The Clio brochure quotes a maximum of 309 l for the E-Tech boot and 391 l for versions with a combustion engine. If you will carry a pram, suitcases or sports kit, a trial with the real objects is more useful than the headline figure.
Driving impressions and noise under acceleration are covered in the Clio E-Tech full hybrid 160 test.
4. TCe 115 EDC: the petrol automatic, but not the cheapest configuration
The TCe 115 can also be ordered with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. The problem with a quick comparison is the trim: the automatic starts at techno, at €22,100, not at evolution. That puts the price very close to the evolution full hybrid and €1,700 above the evolution Eco-G.
The TCe EDC makes sense if you do not want LPG, do not drive enough in town to justify the hybrid and prefer techno equipment. The trim adds, among other things, automatic climate control, a reversing camera, a 10.25-inch instrument display and openR link with navigation and integrated Google. Still compare each feature on the actual configuration; packs and availability can change.
On the test, watch the response when you enter a roundabout, shifts at light throttle and handling on a slope. Do not hold a dual-clutch car on a hill with the accelerator; use the brake and Auto Hold as in the handbook.
5. Space, dimensions and family use
The sixth-generation Clio is 4,116 mm long, 1,768 mm wide without mirrors and 1,451 mm high, and the claimed ground clearance is 142 mm. It is a small-class hatchback, not a crossover. The length helps in town, but a family should check the rear bench and boot before ordering.
Fit the child seat the family actually uses, set the driver’s seat and check the space left in the rear. Fold the bench and measure the load lip. On combustion versions Renault quotes up to 391 l, and on E-Tech 309 l; the figures are maxima and depend on configuration and the measurement method.
evolution trim includes manual air conditioning, rear parking sensors, LED headlights, an electric parking brake with Auto Hold and a 10.1-inch multimedia system without integrated navigation. If you need a camera, automatic climate control or larger screens, compare the price of a higher trim with that of optional packs.
6. Safety: four stars, with details that matter
Euro NCAP tested a left-hand-drive Clio 1.8 petrol-hybrid in 2025. The model received four stars, with 79% for adult protection, 82% for children, 80% for vulnerable road users and 73% for assistance systems.
The Euro NCAP sheet for the Renault Clio says the passenger compartment remained stable in the offset frontal impact, but driver chest protection was rated “weak” and passenger chest protection “marginal”. In the side barrier impact, protection of critical areas scored maximum points. Those details explain more than the star count taken alone.
Also check the equipment of the car you order. Some systems or functions may be optional, and the Euro NCAP test does not prove that every Clio in the showroom has all the cameras and radars on the price list. Ask for the equipment sheet by configuration code.
7. How to choose the engine by route and mileage
Mostly town, 10,000-15,000 km a year
Compare the E-Tech full hybrid with the TCe manual. The hybrid brings automatic comfort and can cut urban consumption, but it costs €4,950 more at the base prices and has a smaller boot. If you drive little, the gap is not automatically recouped through fuel.
Long commute and good access to LPG
The Eco-G 120 EDC has the clearest logic. Calculate the cost per 100 km with local prices and check range on each fuel, not only the sum of the two tanks. If the LPG station requires a daily detour, include the distance and time.
Mixed roads and a minimum budget
The TCe 115 manual keeps almost €5,000 versus the base hybrid. The difference can cover years of fuel, insurance or tyres. It is worth it if you accept the manual gearbox and higher urban consumption.
You definitely want a petrol automatic
The TCe 115 EDC should be compared with the Eco-G 120 EDC and E-Tech on similar trims. If you do not use LPG, the TCe EDC avoids a second fuel system. If you drive a lot in town, the hybrid may be a better fit. The guide to new automatic cars under €23,000 also shows alternatives in the same price band.
For the technical difference between full hybrid and PHEV, read the comparison full hybrid or plug-in hybrid. The Clio E-Tech is not a PHEV and has no charging port.
