Volkswagen ID. Polo reaches delivery times of 10 months. Strong demand for the Skoda Epiq as well
Volkswagen has an unusual problem for today’s European car market: demand for the new ID. Polo exceeds the pace at which the Martorell plant can raise production. The electric model has gathered more than 30,000 orders in Europe, and for certain configurations the lead time communicated by dealers has reached at least ten months.
The information was published by Automotive News Europe, which cites commercial-network data and Volkswagen’s response. The manufacturer says exact times depend on configuration and that it is raising production gradually. The ten months are therefore not a guaranteed period for every country and every version.
More than 30,000 orders before many customers have tested the car
Pre-orders for the ID. Polo began at the end of April 2026. Some buyers signed without having seen the car in a showroom and without a test drive, because demonstrators had not yet reached every market.
A representative of a large Volkswagen dealer group in Germany told the German publication Automobilwoche that the range is sold out for the coming months and that the wait has reached a minimum of ten months. Volkswagen explained the situation as the combination of demand above estimates and the long-term capacity planned for the Martorell plant in Spain.
Customers may find some preconfigured cars allocated to dealers more quickly. Choosing a battery, an equipment level or options that are less available can, however, push delivery into 2027.
The ID. Polo starts in Germany at €24,995
The base price communicated by Volkswagen for Germany is €24,995. That sum corresponds to the Trend version with the 37 kWh LFP battery, for which the manufacturer indicates a range of up to 334 km WLTP.
Versions with the 52 kWh NMC battery can cover up to 454 km WLTP, depending on equipment. The range includes the Trend, Life and Style levels, and the ID. Polo GTI is scheduled for 2027. The official Volkswagen fact sheet also mentions front-wheel drive, the one-pedal function and the ability to power external devices through Vehicle-to-Load.
Prices and the order-opening date in Romania had not been published by the importer on 7 September 2026. The €24,995 figure should not automatically be treated as a local price: VAT, standard equipment and commercial policy differ between markets.
The Skoda Epiq contributes to the electric family’s more than 70,000 orders
The ID. Polo is part of Volkswagen Group’s urban electric-car family, alongside the Skoda Epiq, Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID. Cross. The group had announced in July that the programme’s first models had gathered more than 70,000 orders in a few weeks.
The 70,000 figure does not belong exclusively to the ID. Polo and Epiq. It combines orders for the urban electric family available at that time, and Volkswagen stated separately that the ID. Polo had passed 25,000 orders. The group’s official first-half report shows that the European order book for fully electric models had risen by more than 50% in the second quarter compared with the same period in 2025.
The Skoda Epiq is produced in Pamplona, at another Spanish plant of the group. The electric city SUV is about 4.1 metres long and has a 475-litre boot. In Slovakia, Skoda launched the model from €23,890, while in Germany the base Epiq 35 is announced from €25,900. These figures do not set the future tariff in Romania.

Why Volkswagen cannot move production immediately
The ID. Polo and Cupra Raval are assembled in Martorell, and the Epiq and ID. Cross in Pamplona. The four models use the same MEB+ technical base with front-wheel drive and about 80% shared components, according to Volkswagen Group.
The common platform reduces costs, but it does not remove limits of suppliers, body, paint and assembly lines or battery production. Volume must be raised in stages, and the company says it is working to accelerate the pace without offering a date when the waiting list will return to normal.
For a buyer in Romania, a useful comparison will start only after local prices and the written lead times in the offer are published. A car available from stock may cost more or have unwanted equipment, while an individually configured order can lock up a deposit for several months.
