ABT Sportsline has revealed the RS5-R, a limited special edition based on the new Audi RS 5. The conversion will be offered for both the sedan and the Avant, with production limited to 130 cars worldwide. ABT combines its Power S performance upgrade with carbon-fibre bodywork, revised suspension and 22-inch forged wheels. The result is still an Audi plug-in hybrid, but it has a much more tightly defined specification than a normal RS 5.

ABT quotes approximately 720 PS and 905 Nm for the RS5-R. The standard Audi RS 5 produces 639 PS and 825 Nm, so the stated gain is 81 PS and 80 Nm. These are ABT figures for the tuned vehicle. They are not Carboratory test results, and ABT notes that its performance data applies when using 98 RON fuel.

An Avant with a much sharper visual brief

The wagon keeps the RS 5 Avant body, but the RS5-R package changes the surfaces around it. ABT offers its aerodynamic parts in gloss visible carbon or matt Carbon Camouflage. The list includes a front spoiler with blades, front-wheel-arch louvres, mirror caps and side skirts. At the rear, the Avant receives a new apron with diffuser and a rear wing with aero blades.

ABT RS5-R in side profile

The official ABT images show the car sitting with a more concentrated, lower-looking stance. That visual impression should not be confused with a claim about a wider body. ABT says sport springs bring the body closer to the road, while sport anti-roll bars reduce roll and sharpen turn-in. The package uses ABT EVO Performance forged 22-inch wheels in gloss black with 315/25 R22 tyres.

ABT has not announced a new top-speed figure for the RS5-R. Its release says the top speed remains at the series-car level, and it does not give a new 0–100 km/h time. The confirmed performance change is therefore the increase in system output and torque, rather than a separately published acceleration or maximum-speed claim.

The Audi V6 plug-in hybrid underneath

The RS5-R is based on Audi's 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 and electric motor. Audi's official RS 5 data lists 470 kW, or 639 PS, and 825 Nm for the combined system. The high-voltage battery has a gross capacity of 25.9 kWh and a net capacity of 22.0 kWh. For the RS 5 Avant, Audi publishes a combined EAER electric range of 75 to 83 km, depending on the homologated configuration.

ABT says Power S raises the V6's output from 510 PS to approximately 591 PS and its torque from 600 to 680 Nm. Combined system output rises to around 720 PS, with total torque reaching 905 Nm. ABT does not announce a different battery capacity for the RS5-R, and the electric motor remains part of the original plug-in hybrid architecture.

That matters for the Avant's everyday role. The car remains capable of electric driving within Audi's official homologated range, while the V6 supplies the long-distance and high-load capability expected from an RS model. ABT has not published a new fuel or electricity-consumption figure for the conversion. Audi's official values must therefore remain separate from any future independent test of an RS5-R.

The interior identifies the limited series

The ABT RS5-R interior with sport seats

Inside, ABT uses Dinamica panels, a grippy microfibre material, on the centre console, dashboard and seat frames. The shift paddles receive the carbon finish selected for the exterior. Badges and door-sill trims carry the “1 of 130” lettering, giving each car a direct visual link to the production limit.

These parts personalise the Audi cabin rather than changing its underlying architecture. ABT has not released a complete market-by-market upholstery and equipment list. Buyers start with an individually configured Audi RS 5 and add the ABT conversion, so the final cabin can still depend on the base car and the selected exterior finish.

Conversion pricing is separate from the Audi

ABT lists the RS5-R package at €62,000 for the sedan with gloss visible carbon and €65,000 with matt Carbon Camouflage. For the Avant, the prices are €65,000 and €68,000 respectively. The figures include 19 per cent German VAT and exclude the Audi base vehicle.

Installation adds €7,160 for the sedan or €7,600 for the Avant. TÜV approval is an additional item. The total price of an RS5-R Avant therefore cannot be calculated simply by adding one conversion figure to an Audi list price: the base-car specification, installation and approval costs all affect the final amount.

ABT says the RS5-R can be ordered now, but local taxes, registration requirements and allocation rules can differ. The company has not published a Romanian price or a country-by-country allocation for the 130 cars.

A separate 800-PS plan for 2027

For the second quarter of 2027, ABT is planning further retrofit options for the Audi RS 5. The company mentions a performance upgrade to 588 kW, or 800 PS, and a titanium exhaust system developed with Akrapovič. This is a future retrofit programme, not standard equipment on the 130 RS5-R cars described here.

The distinction matters for buyers who want more power but do not necessarily obtain one of the numbered special editions. ABT has not yet published the final technical data, prices or installation conditions for the 2027 programme. For the current RS5-R, the confirmed headline figures remain approximately 720 PS and 905 Nm, while 800 PS is a planned later option.
